A Good Way To Spend Some Free Time

All you need is a little creativity.

A Good Way To Spend Some Free Time

Something that we don’t get a whole lot of as we get older is free time. With school, work, friends and other responsibilities, whenever the opportunity of free time is presented, relaxing in bed and catching up on Netflix shows sounds like the best way to use it. Allow me to offer another suggestion for a way to spend some valuable free time, next time you have the option. Pick a destination, whether that be a friend’s house, a nearby park or downtown, and bring along your camera.

When looking through the lens of a camera, an opportunity for creativity and capturing a new perspective is presented. Let yourself go beyond the average experience of pointing your phone at something and pressing a button. In a world full of different angles and lighting, any plain object can be turned into something new and exciting! Take a moment to realize where you are and find the parts of that moment that make it special and memorable. That plain wall that people usually walk by without even glancing at could suddenly become a picture-perfect backdrop to put your friend in front of. Graffiti on the walls of a shaded alley might actually say something worth sharing. With a little creativity and a photo-capturing device, anything can be looked at in an interesting way.

Next time there’s a moment where you realize you actually don’t have homework that demands your immediate attention and you somehow have the day off from work at the same time, take your old pal, the camera, with you on a little adventure. Treat yourself to some new scenery and practice with a truly enjoyable activity.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
