3 Feel Good Stories That Prove 2018 Hasn't Been The Sh*t Show We Think It Has

In This Article:

2018 has been clouded by rough headlines since day 1, constantly flashing warnings about the current POTUS, the state of police affairs, and gun violence throughout the country. With this negativity, it can be difficult to look past doom and reexamine the "good" that has come out of this year, sometimes in the most unexpected situations.

It's important to remember, however, that good does happen, and is very prevalent even today.

Take a look at 3 of the most wholesome "feel good" stories of this year, and peruse through this list for more confirmation of the good in humanity.

1. "Parkland Students Are Getting An Official School Therapy Dog."

After 17 students were murdered in February at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, a 3-month-old puppy has become an essential member of the school's staff.

Diana Haneski, the Parkland school's library media specialist, and her husband Ray, have adopted River, a Bernese mountain dog-poodle mix.

Diana stated, "River's going to help in the future with a lot of struggles and troubles."

During the gunman's attack, Diana sheltered 50 children in the library. Now, she's going to continue giving back to her school by bringing River in to provide support for "anyone who needs comforting."

2. "Cat Finds New Home After Walking 12 Miles Back To Owners Who Rejected Him."

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/toby-cat-walk...

Toby the Cat has been adopted by a new family after his previous owners brought him to a shelter and asked for him to be euthanized.

Toby was taken in as a stray, but didn't get along with the family's other animals. The family gave Toby to another family 12 miles away, but he soon walked himself back to the original family's home.

They brought him to a shelter near Raleigh and asked for him to be euthanized. The shelter refused.

Shortly thereafter, the Wake County SPCA began posting about Toby on social media, helping the 7 year old feline quickly get adopted. Toby's new family has gone above and beyond in an effort to help the SPCA by organizing a "local dog-walking event," to benefit the group.

3. "Meet The Man Traveling To All 50 States To Mow Lawns For Those In Need."

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/rodney-smith-...

Rodney Smith, a 28 year old from Bermuda, has embarked on yet another goal to mow lawns for free for those in need.

In 2016, Smith encountered an elderly gentleman mowing his yard and stopped to help him finish the task. After this, Smith says something in him changed.

"When I came across the elderly man, my life changed. I remember a few years before that, I had a one-on-one conversation with God. I asked Him to use me as His vessel, and it didn't happen at that moment. I believe it happened when I came across the elderly man outside mowing his lawn."

Through Smith's journey, he plans to mow lawns in all 50 states to "provide free yard work for the elderly, disabled, single moms and veterans."

In addition, Smith is the founder of Raising Men Lawn Care Service, an organization intent on teaching children lawn mower safety and the importance of community service.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
