Why Its Good To Have A Long Distance Best Friend
Deanna Hare

One of the best friends I have ever had I met last year in college. Even though I have only known her for about a year she is still one of the most important people in my life. She just happens to be from Minnesota. She came to Michigan last year for college and for personal reasons was not able to return to the same college as me this year. Its now been been four months since I have seen her and I miss her like crazy. But even though we can't walk down the hall to see each other in the dorms everyday anymore, we're still as close as ever.

Although it can suck sometimes having a long distance friendship it does have its perks. Even though there are doubts sometimes of how well you can stay close being so far away from each other I know that our friendship will last because she has done this before and knows how it works. After all, she came from Minnesota to go to college in Michigan and managed to stay friends with everyone from back home. So I know she won't forget about us Michigander friends.

Sure it would be nice to have her here so I could see her everyday but I know she is happy where she is and that makes me happy for her. One of the biggest perks of having a long distance best friend is always having an unbiased opinion on any situation you could possibly find yourself in. Whether it be boy troubles or just fighting with another one of your friends

Seeing each other gets so special that all you want to do is be alone with each other and talk and laugh and do everything you couldn't do together since you last saw one another. Not being able to see your best friend every day makes anytime you do get to see them the best day you have had in a long time. Even seeing them for a few hours in a day is worth hours of driving because your friendship means so much.

If you are one of those people that is bored or lonely when they don't have anyone to text or snapchat then having a long distance best friend makes sure that never happens. Because you never see each other you are constantly texting each other to keep on your lives. You're always snapchatting each other too see their faces.

Even if you don't talk for a while you know your friendship will always pick right back off where you left it. Just because you might not always be talking doesn't mean you don't care about each other anymore. It just means that you are both busy in your lives and have enough confidence in the friendship to know that they aren't just ignoring you.

Just remember that if you yourself have a long distance best friend you can expect to be even closer to them than when you lived in the same towns. Distance does make you stronger because you share in how much you love and miss each other. Having a long distance best friend isn't for everyone but if it means keeping her as one of my favorite people in life, then having a long distance best friend is definitely for me.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
