Your palms are sweaty, your heart is beating so fast you're almost positive it's going to jump right out of your chest, and you can't even focus on what's going on around you. Then suddenly, he just does it. He reaches over, and he takes ahold of your hand. It's the first time he's ever held your hand.
You've just come home from one of the most horrible days of your life. Your back is aching, you're on the verge of sobbing, and all you would like to do is cry. You walk into your house, and your mom has supper made. It's warm and after eating you feel so much better. Then, you climb into bed with your mom. Her hands rub your back, and ensure you that tomorrow will be better. As you drift off to sleep, you actually believe tomorrow will be better.
It's a Tuesday. Tuesdays are so unordinary. It's a blah day. You have homework. But instead of doing that, your best friend drags you to eat Moe's. The conversation is light. But that's okay. You both feel comfortable with just being together. Then, instead of just going home, the two of of you just drive around. Music just rambles on between the two of you as you drive down twisty roads.
Mornings are too fast. No one has considerate thoughts. People are just concerned about getting from point A to point B. Kindness is needless to say, thrown out the car window as people rush down the highway. You walk into your usual gas station, to grab a muffin. You get to the cashier, and she informs you that your breakfast has been paid for. A random stranger, that you were too busy with your nose in your phone to notice, bought you breakfast. They wanted to put a little sunshine in your hectic morning. This stranger has impacted you. So, you pull out your wallet and pay for the person behind you.
Human connection is such a strange thing, isn't it? A single smile can make your heart feel so light, you float through the day. Maybe it's a kiss from your long time lover that just seemed to linger a little longer that usual, but it makes you want to explode as love rushes through your veins. Kindness, a tender touch, or a family members presence can make your day go from the usual to a moment that burns in your heart for all of eternity. It's like a drug, really. Nothing on this earth can compare. I get addicted, and I'm not even sure I care. Human connection is the best drug a person can take.
