Have you ever walked into your room one day and suddenly realized how much stuff you have? You don't know where it all came from, or why it all seems to be here but there it is. And you don't have anywhere near the amount of space you need to store it all in.
Tackling any type of mess can be a challenge. But, it can also be a blessing. Once you start to go through your stuff and clear space out, you have a better chance of a fresh start. While, in reality, you will probably end up filling all the space you just cleared with new stuff and have to go through the whole process all over again. But at least for a little while you will have a little bit of fresh air.
Clearing out clutter doesn't just refer to physical stuff. Clutter can refer to people in your life, files on your computer, things on your social media accounts or any other various parts of your life. And once you start clearing out the clutter of one part of your life, you want to do it for everything else. It's addictive, it can give you a chance to think or see something clearly for the first time.
Getting started is probably one of the hardest parts. You look around you and just wonder where to begin. But, you just have to pick a place and go for it. No matter how hard it is. If you say, "Oh, I'll just start tomorrow." Then you might end up doing that for a long time. Believe me, I know, I did that, and still kind of do. There are things that I continuously put off sorting through. I have tried to start and get overwhelmed. It happens, but it's no reason not to keep trying, or believe me, everything will only continue to pile up -- and it will only become even more overwhelming.
So start with something small. Take a box or two, a cabinet, or your nightstand and just start. Don't try to take on an entire closet at once. Or if it's files on your computer, take it a folder at a time. Maybe it's your pictures on social media, take it an album at a time. De-cluttering will take a while, I'll just be honest with you. It might take hours on end, but it will be worth it.
If it's people that you don't want in your life anymore, just stop associating with them. You don't owe them your time or attention. If they aren't the people you want to have around, then don't. Find people with the same goals as you and widen your circle a little bit. I know it is much easier said than done.
So no matter what clutter you have in your life that you want to get rid of, find a way to start clearing it out. Make a plan if you need to. Set a goal, whatever it takes. But don't let it start to pile up and overwhelm you and cause you un-needed stress. It can help with anxiety to not have so much stuff in a small amount of space. The less you have around you or in your life, the less you have to worry about. Once you get everything clean, organized and clutter free, you will want it to stay that way. It will be a breath of fresh air.
