Good bye 2016.

Hello 2017!

With the new year finally here, it is only fitting that we take a moment to discuss all the reasons we are glad 2016 is over. However, we don't want to take an entire year to rehash all the dirty, grimy details so here is merely 17 reasons to be happy the 2017 is finally here.

1. Presidential Debate:

It happened, and it's over. Whether your candidate lost or won, it is time to move into the next four years and, for better or for worse, continue living our lives as best as we can. It has torn people apart enough from one another.

2. Taylor Swift vs Kanye/Kim Kardasian West

The twitter banter was great for everyone to see, but it is over and let's all give a little 'Amen' to that!

3. Goodbye Harambe

From the moment Harambe got shot, to the numerous memes, to the latest 'Vote for Harambe' election campaign going around social media, it is safe to say we can leave all of those in 2016. Although, you will be missed Harambe!

4. Racism, Prejudice, Sexism, Homophobia, Anti-feminism

Whether you believe in all causes, one cause, or none, there was never a right given to make fun of the ones you do not support. Stop the hate, loose the 'tude, and let others do what they please if they are not harming you in any way, shape, or form.

5. Celebrity Deaths

David Bowie, Christina Grimmie, Alan Rickman, Prince, Joe Alaskey, Pat Conroy, Muhammad Ali, Kenny Baker, Carrie Fisher, Richard Adams, Debbie Reynolds, and so many others. This year has been a very sad year involving some very special people to some of us. We have lost multiple celebrities who people held close to their hearts.

6. Body Shaming

Stop targeting men and women on how their body should look. Everyone is unique, everyone is their own person, focus less on them and more on yourself. It is pointless and puts so much hate out into the world.

7. Drama, drama, drama, drama, drama, dram

One more time for everyone in the back? Drama. It is so useless, so ignorant, and annoying. It is sickening to see all the hate people put on the internet towards others, no matter the reason.

8. Black Beatles

The song, the challenge, all of it. It is not a bad song, but how many times have I heard it? Way too many to keep up with,

9. '100' Layer Challenge

100 layers of makeup, clothing, nail polish, hair spray, and more. It was painful to watch the videos and see the pictures roaming the internet this year of this challenge.

10. Animal Cruelty

The poor animals I have seen on the internet of being beaten, scabbed, bruised, and forgotten break more heart tremendously. Fight against it and do not let these poor animals continue to be abused in the new year.

11. Bulling

In person, over the phone, through others, and online, bullying needs to be stopped. It causes so much pain and suffering to those who receive it and those who are around it.

12. Jay-Z and Beyoncé

Whether or not it is true, if Beyoncé had been cheated on, what did the world come to?

13. Yeezy Collection

I will never understand how people can spend so much money on this fashion collection. You can go to a thrift store and buy the same thing there, then use the money you would have paid for the 'Yeezy' brand to pay off your college tuition.

14. Contouring Whole Body?

Hunny, you are gorgeous no matter what! Be proud of the body you have.

15. Flag Burning

After the elections, numerous videos surfaced on the internet of people burning their flag out of rage. This ignorant act should be left where it started and should not be continued at all. Your country is still your country whether or not you are proud of the decisions it has made.

16. Mental Illness Ignorance

It is here, it is alive, and it should not be ignored. Whether you have it, a friend has it, or a family member, it should not be dismissed, It is important to fight it now and however long it takes for everyone to begin to take it seriously.

17. Shootings, Terrorist Attacks, Fights

From the attack on the Orlando club, to the one on France, to the latest one OSU, violence should stay in 2016.

Let's hope that 2017 is better for all of us and 2016 was merely a fluke in the system.

Good luck and have a happy new year!

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
