The second floor of the Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries in St. Louis has a very interesting exhibit running right now. The exhibit is called Golf at the Galleries and showcases artist designed mini golf. The pieces are even playable and were created by artists, architects and other creators.
It runs until August 12. It is $10 for adults, $6 for kids 12 and under, and if you're a US Bank cardholder you get $2 off each admission! It might be a drive, but it's seriously worth it.
This event is family friendly and accessible. I went with my boyfriend and we had a wonderful time, it is truly fun for all ages. It's also air conditioned, which makes it perfect for these hot summer days!
There were 9 holes total, each was set in its own room. The experience was immersive, each hole took up its entire room and there was supplemental art on the walls and around the installations to add to the experience
My boyfriend's favorite was "Distortion" by Arcturis, a half pipe with a mirrored ceiling. It was by far the most difficult of all the holes - neither my boyfriend nor I actually completed it.
I preferred Justin King's "Serengeti Park", which was made entirely out of cardboard. It has animals like an towering elephant, a fox having a picnic, and a chimpanzee sitting on a bench you could take selfies with. While it was not particularly challenging as a mini golf hole, it was pretty straight forward. The cardboard animal statues were cute and made for a great photo opportunity.
Another hole I liked was called "The Gateway Green – A Hole-in-One for STL" By Switch. It was a model of the new Gateway Arch grounds as well as the old courthouse and Kiener Plaza.
I really enjoyed the creativity put into the works, they were all different and had their own unique challenges. It was definitely a great experience and not quite your everyday activity. It had a fun spin on your average mini golf outing. I highly recommend checking it out, you'll thank me later.
