I just returned home from college and was reunited with my best friend—my golden retriever! Although he's growing up fast, I can see those key traits all golden retrievers have, that he'll never outgrow. Those of you who own golden retrievers will agree that this breed of dog is incredibly unique!
1. That moment when you look at your puppy's paws and think, "God, I've got a real Clifford on my hands..."
Nothing beats the cuteness of a puppy's floppy, oversized ears! They're also the ultimate indicator of our furry friends' happiness!
3. However many walks you take, you can never tire them out.
Golden retrievers are known to be high-energy dogs that crave a (hyper)active lifestyle, but no matter how in shape you think you are, chasing after your golden will always leave you winded.
4. Not to mention, their endless curiosity!
Every Golden retriever owner has a long list of ridiculous stories about their dog's shenanigans. My dog has an acquired taste for my dad's leftover coffee!
5. And when it's time for a bath? Get ready!
You know it's a problem when you have guests over, invite them to sit down, and they one look at your couch and say, "No thanks, I'd rather stand." Fortunately, I found that laying a blanket over the couch seat does the trick!
7. Though their fluffy coat keeps them warm in their favorite season.
Golden retrievers are the dogs that stick their entire heads into snowbanks, just to see how far down they can go. They are also the masters of snow angels!
8. But be sure to give them love and care, because they miss you when you go.
My dog waited by the door all day for my mom to get home from work! Golden retrievers are some of the most caring dog breeds; they form real emotional attachments to their owners and will do anything to protect those they love.
9. And though they can be masterful escape artists...
My golden tried to dig a hole under the fence! Am I that bad of a dog owner?!
10. They never leave your heart.
Life with a golden is tough but rewarding. Golden retrievers are big dogs that can cause big trouble--but they also have the biggest hearts. If you own a golden, you know exactly what I mean. If you don't, I urge you to open your heart to a furry friend of your own!
