5 Signs You're The Dorothy Zbornak In Your Friend Group

Are you most like Blanche, Dorothy, Rose or Sophia?

Every person in a friend group has something about them that makes them stand out friend the rest of the group.

In The Golden Girls, which aired from 1985-1992, that was no exception. Blanche Devereaux was the slut, Rose Nylund was the moron, Sophia Petrillo was the matriarch, and Dorothy Zbornak was the smart one.

Here are just five out of the handful of ways you can tell if Dorothy Zbornak is your spirit animal, like I know she is mine.

1. You are the most sane person in the friend group.

Being the sanest person in a friend group can simultaneously be a blessing and a curse. You are the one who keeps everything and everyone together, which can become exhausting. Sometimes you might prefer to be less sane for it to be less mentally painful to be around your crazy friends. When the four ladies once met with a psychiatrist to discuss their difficulties living together, Blanche and Rose were angry with Dorothy for basically being competent.

2. You also might be the most intelligent person in your friend group.

Intelligence, like sanity, can also be a simultaneous blessing and curse. It is nice to be smart, but when you are hanging out with others that tend to make your brain hurt, you may begin to ponder whether intelligence is all that its cut out to be. At one time, Dorothy befriends a local author who shares her passion for intellectual activities and conversation. For Dorothy, this was a refreshing change of pace from listening to Blanche's sexual escapades and Rose's St. Olaf stories.

3. You are the most independent person.

You may not go out on dates every weekend. You may prefer a quiet evening at home reading a book or watching television. The funny thing about the show is that in the series finale, Dorothy ended up being the one who walked down the aisle once again. However, before that, Dorothy was reasonably content being single. There were moments where she wanted to attract a man, but she was not desperate by any means.

4. You can be scary when you are angry.

When you get angry, it is not pretty. Dorothy has resorted to hitting Rose on the head more than once when Rose says something "stupid." Now and then, Rose realizes when she hands Dorothy an object such as a newspaper, Dorothy will use it to hit her and refuses to give said object to Dorothy.

5. Sarcasm is your best friend.

One of the best defenses against stupidity is sarcasm. For Dorothy Zbornak, sarcasm is practically a second language. Whenever one of the other girls asks a silly question, Dorothy tends to come back with a somewhat sarcastic answer. In one episode, when Rose asks Dorothy if she can ask a stupid question, Dorothy responds by saying "Better than anyone I know."

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2023, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.

Christmas is literally so close. We can almost taste it. But there is just one thing standing between you and the big day: FINALS. It's not the studying, lack of sleep, last minute cram sessions or crappy food intake that is the worst... but the fact that you cannot focus because, well, CHRISTMAS. How do professors expect you to focus when Christmas is soooo soon. For all my fellow Christmas lovers out there, I feel your pain.
