Over the past four years, I have been living in a huge city. I have witnessed many different things than when I did back home. Growing up in a small city, everybody knew your name or at least your last name. That was one of the reasons why I decided on coming to such a small school. Sure, we don't have baseball or football, but if you didn't know, we get discounts to the bigger school's football and baseball games. I enjoy not having to wake up more than two hours early to be out of the room thirty minutes early because the walk to class is a twenty minute trek. Thank goodness it is only a five minute walk.
When I first toured this campus, I was told the campus was a very close knit community. They weren't kidding. Everybody knows your name, your major, sometimes where you are from, and what year you are. Sure, privacy is a good thing, but having people know who you are is a good thing also. Going to a small school that is in the middle of a big city is also great. Everything is at your fingertips. Harris Teeter is easy five minutes down the road in either direction. Chick-Fil-A is also close by, along with Taco Bell, Wendy's, McDonalds and many other quick food places. The mall is less than fifteen minutes away from campus (depending on traffic). The other university is about twenty minutes away which includes the highway, but does not include traffic. I love being able to explore different parts of the city and being able to go back to my dorm that night. Charlotte is big enough that you can do some different activity each night without having to do it twice like at home.
Private schools may be crazy expensive, but the experiences you get by going to the school are priceless. Who knows if you would of had the same experiences at any other school? I have thought about transferring to a bigger school throughout my years here, but if I did actually go through with that decision, I know I would have regretted it. A small, private school gives you experiences that a huge, public school most likely couldn't. I am glad to be a part of such a great community and campus. I wouldn't change it.
