I'm Going Home For Spring Break, And I'm Completely OK With It

An article of justification for those of us who aren't feeling as adventurous as others this semester.

I'm Going Home For Spring Break, And I'm Completely OK With It

Wether it be partying in Texas, hiking in Colorado, relaxing in Florida, volunteering in Mexico, or road tripping through Washington; I’ve heard the details of just about every exciting spring break plan you could think of. What will I be doing over my week of freedom from school, work, and every other responsibility in my life, you may ask? I’m going home to spend 200+ hours on the couch with me, myself, and I, and I don’t regret my decision one bit.

On one hand, I do feel like I’m missing out on the “craziest time of my life,” aka my freshman year of college, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Between all the free time I’ve been lacking, the sleep I’ve been missing out on, and the money I definitely do not have, I’m excited to spend some time doing absolutely nothing. I’m excited to be bored for an entire week and not have to spend any money. I’m excited to eat a few good, home-coked meals without having to worry about how many swipes I have left on my meal plan for the week. But most of all, I’m excited to spend over a week cuddling with my dogs and laughing with my family.

I didn’t have to worry about preparing my “beach bod” for the past three months and sorting out whose car we’re taking or what hotel we’re staying at. On top of that, and most importantly, I didn’t have to fork over hundreds of dollars to pay for a week of activities.

I am in no way, shape, or form dissing anyone who chose to participate in spring break adventures. I’m sure one of these years I’ll be doing the same things you’re all doing right now, wether it be on the beach, in the mountains or somewhere in between. You’re all making memories and having the time of your lives while I’m sitting on the couch, probably watching a TLC reality show as you read this article, but to each his own, I suppose.

This year, I chose my own way of celebrating the fact that I made it halfway through the semester without dropping out (only two months to go.. keep tuning in to see if I stay strong), surrounded by family and the familiarity of my hometown. To those who chose a more adventurous path than I, bottoms up, stay safe, put on sunscreen, and have fun! As for those of you who will also be tuning into “Say Yes to the Dress,” and “House Hunters,” here’s to us!

Whatever you’re doing this week, enjoy the heck out of it, because school will be patiently, or not so patiently, waiting to kick our asses once again when we return.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
