Going Green

How I'm slowly going green.

Going Green

Ever since quarantine started I realized that we produce a lot of waste as human beings. So I decided to take it into my own hands. Here are some of the ways I've "gone green".

Reusable Items

Reusable items are sold everywhere. And they've always been sold everywhere but we just never noticed. Everything from the basic from reusable water bottles, That all of us already have, to reusable Tupperware, and reusable grocery bags. I found that tote bags are very useful as grocery bags. They can be folded up into a tiny little pocket and then taken out to hold all your groceries as you come home. Reusable Tupperware has been around forever and I'm pretty sure that you already have some. But sometimes Tupperware Isn't always "Reusable". I've started using glass Tupperware that can be cleaned and if broken and thrown out can be recycled. Glass Tupperware last much longer and stains much less. If you're like me I hated The food stands that would never come out of my plastic Tupperware. That's why I said are using glass and have learned that it's much better for the environment.

Schooling

Notebooks you so much paper. Countless trees die every single year for a couple of notebooks. If you're taking a lot of classes you can be used after ten notebooks if not more. I never liked how the notebooks drag my book bag down, so this year you could decide to get a tablet. No my choice of getting a tablet wasn't to save trees at first, it was for my benefit. But as I started using it to take my notes, I realized how much you benefit me as well as the environment. I use one single tablet for six of my classes and zero notebooks. I'm sure that saved multiple trees right now. iPads and tablets have become very popular these days for writing notes. It's lightweight as well as environmentally friendly. Other notebooks are environmentally friendly but I find them to be on the more expensive side. Although Tablets and iPads are very expensive, it's an investment that will last you for multiple years and you can use them for multiple different things.

Disposable Cameras

Now I know that disposable cameras are all the hype at the moment, but those disposable cameras are very bad for the environment. I didn't know this until I did some research and I realize that plastic isn't recyclable and takes hundreds of years to decompose. I've invested in a camera that has an SD card but takes pictures like a disposable camera. I get the same experience but it's reasonable. I can use this camera as many times as I want and I can take hundreds of pictures, in the same way, I would with a disposable camera.

Not everything in life could be environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, there are still multiple things that affect the environment that's not in our control yet. But small things can help us push forward to make our world much healthier. One small step at a time we can all do this together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
