Recently, I watched the movie "God's Not Dead: A Light In Darkness." While watching this movie, God put His Spirit into me and I began to draw inspiration from this movie. This article is a product of that inspiration.
If you haven't watched this movie yet, I highly encourage you to watch it. It is currently on Netflix and one of the most inspiring movies I ever saw. I am going to be dropping some serious spoilers in here, so if you want to watch it, stop reading now and come back and read this when you have watched the movie.
Anyways, the movie starts out with Reverend David Hill, the main character in this movie, sitting in jail for refusing to turn over his sermons to the court in the previous film. While watching this scene, I was reminded of Paul the Apostle. Paul the Apostle was jailed for his faith, as was Reverend Hill. God showed me through this scene and what I know about Paul to tell me that sometimes a Christian will be jailed, persecuted or even killed for their faith.
We are in a spiritual war, ladies and gentlemen.
Now is not the time to be complacent with our faith. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we must be willing to bear the ultimate price for our faith, even if it comes to dying as a martyr or being imprisoned because of Christianity.
The movie continues with Reverend Hill's friend and brother in Christ, Jude dying in an accident where the church caught on fire after a brick struck a gas chamber. The last words Jude spoke to Reverend Hill were "God is good, all the time. And all the time, God is good." in Swahili. We as an audience don't find out until later that is what Jude said, but it is so inspiring that even at the brink of death, Jude was still believing in and trusting God. Wow, that is some serious faith! This scene really inspired me to live my life for God, even if it costs me my life.
The movie continues with Reverend Hill grieving over Jude's death while trying to save his church, St. James, from getting torn down by the university it sits on, Hadleigh University. Reverend Hill reunites with his estranged brother, Pearce, a social justice lawyer to help him fight the university from taking the church away. As the movie progresses, Reverend Hill and his brother rebuild their relationship and settle their differences.
This situation hit home with me as well. My older sister and I butt heads on a lot of things and sometimes, we get so mad at each other, we don't speak for days to each other. I have learned through God's Word and this movie that everything is possible with God. If God wants me to rebuild the relationship between me and my sister, which I know He wants, then everything we are fighting about will come to a resolution.
Finally, what I learned from this movie is that in this big old world of darkness, it is up to Christians to shine the light- God's love- on this dark, dark world. People, when we finally settle our differences and come together to resolve problems with courtesy, respect and most importantly, love can this world see change. Don't judge people, love them instead.
