I sometimes feel as though our world is on a continuous downslope. I have made peace with that though, because one day Jesus will come back. Isn’t it great that we know how this one goes? In our own lives, it is always a question of what our comeback will be. Life, full of ups and downs, will end with the best comeback of them all. Which makes me wonder why we doubt the power of God when we’re feeling down. It’s not too late for your comeback story.
Louie Giglio, a well-known pastor, introduced me to the idea of life being full of comebacks. When I first listened to the sermon, I was in awe. God sets us up for the best comebacks. You may not see it now, but they are there. I mean, let’s take a look at the Bible. Moses, he didn’t think he would be able to do anything because of his speech problem. Then God set him up for a comeback. Daniel, he was thrown in a lion’s den. Then there was the comeback. Ruth, her husband died … comeback. Paul was killing Christians before he became one of the most well-known believers. Talk about a comeback. Job had everything taken away from him, and yet God turned that into a comeback story we all admire. Then there is the best comeback of them all, and that is Jesus. People hated him. He was hung on a cross, died and then ROSE FROM THE DEAD. Have you seen a comeback greater than this?
A God that can do all these things can certainly bring you back from whatever downslope you are on. Looking back at my own life, there are so many times God has set me up for a comeback. Maybe you moved schools and you thought you’d never make new friends. Your first boyfriend broke up with you and life as you knew it was over. Your SAT scores sucked and you saw college disappearing down the drain. You failed a class and knew you’d soon be a college dropout. That job you wanted just slipped out from between your fingers, so life isn’t working out. No matter the situation, you see now how God brought you out of it. Or maybe you are still stuck and are waiting for the comeback. Do not fret; it will happen. Never doubt the plan God has for you. Never lose hope in the one who can do the impossible.
These comebacks, though, are not about us. Life is not about us. It is about God. When he lifts you up out of this hole, it will be in a way that points to Him. He might not give you a better job, boyfriend or test score. Sometimes, he just wants us to come out saying, “It’s not what I did, it is everything God did.” Don’t lose faith. God’s timing is impeccable. Wait for your comeback story, and to God be the glory.
