I saw this post on Twitter a few days ago about a user dragging and belittling another female who, based off of the reaction of the one doing the belittling, identifies herself as a Christian or at least religious, for posting photos of herself at the beach wearing a bikini.
Well, what else is she going to wear to a beach? She’s of course not going to wear a long sleeve shirt with a long skirt. She’s going to wear appropriate attire – people wear snow boots to the snow and bikinis/swimsuits to the beach. It is just the way things work.
The girl who had posted the photos should not have been judged based on what she was wearing, she should not have been called a liar and a hoe because of what she decided to wear to the beach – again, what else was she going to wear?
The clothing that one does or does not wear does not stand as a measurement of Gods love for us nor the relationship that we have with Him individually. The clothing one chooses to wear is based of off something different entirely – comfort or simply because we think it looks good.
Regardless of the reasons why we wear the things we do, it should not be an excuse to insult someone because you think it contradicts what they stand for religiously. If anything, it should not give you an excuse to say a peep, let alone post it on social media. We either spend our time judging or wishing we were those people.
What a person of faith or not of faith decides to wear to the beach, the corner store, or to church, that is their business. If one decides to post it on a platform, it’s their business. I guarantee that God will not love them any less for it.
The love He has for us, for everyone, is not defined by what you decide to wear or post. What matters is the relationship we have with Him. How we choose to show Him praise and honor is up to us. Insulting someone on social media seems to be the opposite of praising and honoring God.
If you want to wear jeans, crop tops, tank tops, shorts, short skirts, or bikinis, or a potato sack, then do it. It is a personal decision, as is the relationship one chooses to have with God. The beauty of it all is that God loves us for who we are, He will never leave us or abandon us in times of need nor in times of prosperity. God himself is love.
As a point of reference, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8
I am a Christian, I wear jeans, tank tops, shorts, and bikinis – that does not mean that God loves me any less than those who wear skirts down to their ankles. And it definitely does not imply that I am a “hoe” or a “Slut.”
