God, Please Send Me Someone

"God, please send me someone, because I’ve been waiting a very, very long time."

Finding a life partner is scary. Deciding who you want to spend the rest of forever with is terrifying. The thought of being spiritually, emotionally, physically, and legally bound to someone is frightening. Thinking about saying the words, “I do!” to one person and committing yourself to them until the day you die sounds petrifying.

The point I’m trying to make is that falling in love, choosing to enter a committed relationship, and getting married can all be overwhelming.

Decisions like that can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

That is, if you’re on the verge of choosing the wrong person.

There’s nobody who knows you better than you; Therefore, you know what’s best for you. Since you know what’s best for you, you also know who is best for you.

You know exactly what you desire in your significant other and we can only hope and pray that God sends us a perfect match.

With that being said…

God, please send me someone who truly loves me for me.

God, please send me someone who will never, ever give up on me.

God, please send me someone who can handle my harsh sarcasm and carefree attitude.

God, please send me someone who can throw shade back at me when I’m in a roasting mood.

God, please send me someone who believes in You and will go to church with me every Sunday.

God, please send me someone who won’t just pray with me, but pray for me, especially when we are apart.

God, please send me someone who won’t judge me or ridicule me for the decisions I make.

God, please send me someone who believes in my dreams and wants nothing more than to watch me succeed.

God, please send me someone who is motivated and dedicated to reaching his goals.

God, please send me someone who understands and forgives.

God, please send me someone who isn’t too proud to apologize.

God, please send me someone who will protect me.

God, please send me someone who will help me grow.

God, please send me someone who isn’t afraid to put me in my place when I’m wrong.

God, please send me someone who believes in mermaids.

God, please send me someone who knows how to handle my stubborn side.

God, please send me someone who can live with my dominant, strong personality.

God, please send me someone who will raise a family with me and help me provide the world for our children.

God, please send me someone who is open-minded and adaptable.

God, please send me someone who listens and understands.

God, please send me someone who has a good head on his shoulders and has nothing but good intentions for me.

God, please send me someone who loves chicken nuggets as much as I do.

God, please send me someone who is patient and kind.

God, please send me someone who believes that dreams are worth more than money.

God, please send me someone who respects and values my morals and beliefs.

God, please send me someone who will walk alongside me, not in front of or behind me.

God, please send me someone who will make decisions with me versus taking control over everything.

God, please send me someone who knows how to cook because, the way my cooking skills are set up, we’re doomed.

God, please send me someone who will turn the little things into the big things.

God, please send me someone who will go out of his way to make me happy.

God, please send me someone who never gets embarrassed by me and isn’t afraid to show me off.

God, please send me someone who understands that I absolutely HAVE to have at least one wiener dog in our household, but preferably two.

God, please send me someone who believes in me, and in us.

God, please send me someone who is honest and wouldn’t even think about going behind my back.

God, please send me someone who will work with me through the hard times.

God, please send me someone who will take me out on real dates.

God, please send me someone with an incredible sense of humor.

God, please send me someone who values his, and my, family.

God, please send me someone who believes that everything happens for a reason.

God, please send me someone who treats everybody like they’re somebody.

God, please send me someone who has a positive outlook on life.

God, please send me someone who stands up for what he believes in and always does what he believes is right.

God, please send me someone who always says the words I need to hear.

God, please send me someone who believes that, as long as we’re happy, everything is going to be okay.

God, please send me someone who You believe is the best fit for me.

God, please send me someone, because I’ve been waiting a very long time.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
