As the longest reigning queen's 90th birthday celebration draws near, it's time to go over one lady's long life.
From the very beginning, the Queen of England has been royalty. She was born into the royal family as Princess Elizabeth, though wasn't the heir apparent until her uncle chose an American woman over the throne. Her young life was marked by service to the public, starting during WWII where she had a radio broadcast to Britain in which she assured the people "that in the end, all will be well; for God will care for us and give us victory and peace." Keep in mind, she was 14 at this time. Six years later, she joined a volunteer organization to help with the war effort and trained to be a mechanic.
Queen Elizabeth met her husband at the ripe old age of 13, and quickly fell in love. Except they're distant cousins. No matter, their relationship quickly blossomed and they wed in 1947. The next year, Elizabeth birthed a boy, Charles, and then two years later a girl named Anne. She had two more sons years later, named Andrew and Edward.
In 1952, the current king, Elizabeth's father, passed away. The following year, Elizabeth had her coronation, the first to ever be televised. From then until the 80's, the Queen certainly kept her passport full, with trips to Germany, Canada, Kuwait, the United States, and Oman to name a few.
The Queen chose who her heir would be, Charles, by giving him the title of the Prince of Wales. Charles went on to marry the famous Princess Diana and have two sons, William and Harry. While Diana was the People's Princess, it seems the Queen wasn't so fond of her, due to her lack of public acknowledgment of the Princess' passing until days later.
At the beginning of the 2000's, the Queen suffered two blows: the passing of her mother and sister. Other events at the turn of the century were: dealing with Charles and his relationship with Camilla and planning Will and Kate's wedding.
Earlier on in this decade, the Queen celebrated the birth of her own great-grandchildren, George and Charlotte.
In her free time, the Queen enjoys reading mystery novels, doing crossword puzzles, and watching wrestling. Other fun activities: owning a million corgis and breeding thoroughbred horses.
Happy 90th Queen Elizabeth!
