God, I don't understand why you are calling me to do this...
God, I don't understand why I can't seem to get a date and be okay with it...
God, I don't understand why college is way to hard on me...
God, I don't understand why you let everyone leave...
The struggle of everyday decisions impacts everyone. Last year was the "worst year of your life" but this year has brought just as many struggles. For the past two years, I can say that this was my life, always questioning God on why I had to go through something, why someone left and occasionally I still do.
When I went to Israel this past summer, I became a different person. My relationship with God changed, my heart for ministry changed and I as a person changed. I walked where Jesus had walked, where he carried the cross to die and where he performed many miracles.
Sitting on top of Mount Arbel, I learned the biggest life lesson for when I come to situations where I don't understand why. The story that happened where Mount Arbel is located can be found in Matthew 14. During this chapter, this is when Jesus fed the five thousand. After feeding his people, Jesus sent his disciples to the other side of the lake. While the disciples did this task, Jesus went on top of the mountain to pray. By night, his disciples got into a very bad storm, and after Jesus came back to them walking on water. (You should finish the chapter, it's a good one!)
What I learned by reading this and sitting on top of this mountain is that Jesus knew that this storm was coming. Jesus sent his disciples into the storm knowing they would cry for help. After feeding the five thousand, the disciples felt proud and were experiencing a mountain-top high. But, then they were put into a valley experience with the storm. During this storm, they got to learn and experience God more than they ever had.
Jesus humbled himself down the mountain to rescue them from the storm even when the disciples had doubts. Please don't miss the big point, Jesus could see them the whole time through their storm. Just like he does for us. No matter what is happening he is always with us in our mountain top experiences and our valley experiences.
At the right time, He will come to you, change you and fix you. We are here because God has a purpose for each life. Even when it is difficult to follow, Jesus it is worth it because one day you will understand. I have realized that when things go wrong you learn the most from him. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know have the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
It's okay to not be okay, but it's not okay to stay that way.
