God Has You In Your Brokenness

When things are hard, you can find trust in the Lord your God.

I'll be honest with you, reader, this week has been hell for my family and me. As a result, I could barely come up with anything to write and nothing I had started felt compelling to me. In the car on Friday I expressed this to a friend and she said that, in my time of brokenness, I write an article of encouraging Bible verses. So I decided to collect my favorite Bible verses and worship lyrics in a time I am in need of encouragement to maybe encourage others as well.

1. Have compassion on me Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. - Psalm 6:2

2. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. - Psalm 147:3

3. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. - Psalm 34:18

4. You lay down Your life, that I would be set free. - This is Amazing Grace, Phil Wickam

5. You crush the enemy underneath my feet. You are my sword and shield, though troubles linger still. Whom shall I fear? I know who goes before me, I know who stands behind. The God of angel armies, is always by my side. - Whom Shall I Fear, Chris Tomlin

6. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. - 1 Corinthians 15:43

7. And you tell me that you're pleased, and that I'm never alone... 'Cause you know just what we need, before we say a word - Good Good Father, Chris Tomlin

8. Oh, it's love so undeniable, I can hardly speak. Peace so unexplainable, I can hardly think .- Good Good Father, C hris Tomlin

9. Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me. Hallelujah, and all my stains are washed away. - Grace Like Rain, Todd Agnew

10. I confess, my hands are weary, I need your rest. Mighty warrior, king of the fight. No matter what I face you're by my side. When you don't move the mountains I'm needing you to move. When you don't part the waters I wish I could walk through. When you don't give the answers as I cry out to you. I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in you. - Trust in You, Lauren Trust in You, Lauren Diagle

11. Far be it from me to not believe, even when my eyes can't see. And this mountain that's in front of me will be thrown into the midst of the sea. Through it all, through it all, my eyes are on You. Through it all, through it all, it is well. - It is Well, Bethel Music

12. Everyone needs compassion, a love that's never failing. Let mercy fall on me . - Mighty to Save, Hillsong United

13. Saviour, he can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save. Forever author of salvation, He rose and conquered the grave. Jesus conquered the grave. So take me as you find me, all my fears and failures. Fill my life again. - Mighty to Save, Hillsong United

14. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. - Deuteronomy 31:8

15. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. - Isaiah 41:10

Sometimes, it feels like the world is drowning us. Our worries and doubts can crowd our brain and drown out God. It can feel like the bad times will be unending. As someone who has struggled with depression since she was a child, this is a feeling I am all too familiar with. At a time where my family is struggling, on top of my own personal struggles, I am feeling extremely lost and in pain. I am turning to God in this time. I hope that, in your time of need, you can as well.

My final verse for you is my favorite: I can do all things through Christ who is my strength (Philippians 4:13).

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
