How come when we give our all to Christ and draw closer to Him, the devil draws closer to us? Why can’t he go hangout with those doing evil things that give him pleasure? Why does he have to lurk around those with a heart pursuing Christ? It’s because he LOVES to try to battle with the Lord’s children.
The devil puts all his energy and focus into the biggest threats. Immediately, his evil eyes are drawn to spiritual influences such as pastors, worship leaders, charity founders, etc. For me personally, I felt Satan attack me the most when I had the biggest “God moment.” I had been through some very traumatizing events starting at 14 years old. I never told a soul, kept everything inside and tried to deal with it on my own. I finally spoke up and was able to release all the pain to the Lord and family members. I knew how proud God was of me in that moment. He must have been smiling ear to ear. Of course, the devil wasn’t far behind and chose to attack me for this life-changing moment. The devil ALMOST won. He definitely put all his energy into breaking me down to my weakest point where I didn’t even want to live. But God never asks us to fight our battles alone and will certainly be there to help us fight off the devil.
No weapon formed against you shall remain, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn - Isaiah 54:17
Your trial may seem big, but remember that God is bigger.
When God calls us to do something, He doesn’t say it will be easy. It won’t be easy to walk away from your abusive husband. It won’t be easy to move to a new country where you don’t know anyone to do ministry. It won’t be easy to turn away from a corrupt friendship that is only bringing you down. It won’t be easy to have a baby conceived by rape. But guess what else wasn’t easy? When Jesus was crucified on the cross in order to forgivene OUR sins. He was suffering because of God’s plan. Sometimes doing what God calls us to seems like the most impossible thing, but God promises it will be worth it. Listen to the Holy Spirit because He will never steer you wrong.
The best way to fight these attacks is full reliance on the Lord. Do not get angry and frustrated because you’re giving the devil exactly what he wants. If you do that, he wins. Do not listen to the devil’s words trying to bring you down. He will do and say just about anything to see you fall. All those false statements that you’re not good enough, that you’re better off alone, that you are a nobody, THEY ARE FALSE!
When the devil says those things, God says “you are loved, you are purposeful, you are gifted, you are a child of the King.” So, when under attack, pray. Fall to your knees humbly before the Lord and do not let your heart stray. The Lord is your strength. The devil will always fight the hardest when he knows God is up to something great.
“The Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still.”
-Exodus 14:14
