Let's make it one for the books.

Goals For Summer 2016

Summer is right around the corner and it seems that everyone is ready to make it a memorable one. In order to guarantee it's everything you hope for, it’s important to set goals about the things you wish to achieve in these three short months. Whether you hope to step out of your comfort zone or return to the familiarities of home, here are some goals you should add to your list.

1. Get a nice, even tan.

There’s no better feeling than seeing the paleness of winter fade into a even tan because "look good, feel good" am I right?

2. Work (a lot).

Freshman year has definitely not been kind to my bank account. It will be nice to have some spending money in my wallet to buy new clothes or some ice cream or pay for the countless adventures I have planned. But it's also important to save as much as possible to in preparation for next semester and, you know, college.

3. Eat healthier.

Sure, we all want to get that beach bod and that's definitely a top priority. But more importantly, when you eat better, you feel better. I mean french fries are great and all, but there's nothing like the taste of fresh fruit or the good type of full that you feel after eating a salad.

4. Make a good summer playlist.

The soundtrack to this summer has to be a good one. Some country for the beach, some rap for long drives, some relaxing songs for tanning and so much more.

5. Worry less.

Now that finals are done and we have three months off from school, it's important to take some time and enjoy yourself without being stressed. So let go of your worries and just live life.

6. Spend more time with family.

Again, after not having spent much time with them for the past two semesters, some family time is definitely needed.

7. Go on a road trip.

It could be 20 miles or 2,000 miles, but getting out of town for a little and seeing new things is worth the little bit of gas money. So get some friends, have everyone chip in and take some back roads to unfamiliar places.

8. Try new things.

We, as humans, are creatures of habit and it's very easy for us to get stuck in the same routine every day. Which is why it's my goal to switch things up and do something different once in a while.

9. Get into yoga.

After watching all the Instagram videos of impressive yoga moves, I've decided it's time to try it out myself. So this summer, I plan to wake up a little earlier and do some yoga (maybe even on the beach).

10. Make some of the tasty videos.

We all share them and tag our friends, but never actually make them and I don't know how many more sweet treats I can look at without trying to make one myself. So I plan to essentially become a top chef this summer. Watch out.

11. Reach out to and reconnect with old friends.

Even though you may not be as close now, the gesture of showing an interest in how someone's doing is never a bad thing. In fact, who knows, you might end up realizing why you were friends to begin with and become closer with them after all.

12. Work on some cute DIY projects.

Let's be real: I browse Pinterest for hours at a time, so I might as well be productive.

13. Grow out my hair.

I always cut my hair before it reaches the length I want and then regret it immediately. This time I will achieve the long beach waves I've always wanted.

14. Adventure more.

Whether it's going on a hike or driving across the state, the experience is always worth it. As Ellie says in "UP", "Adventure is out there" and you have to find it.

15. Be completely happy.

Soak in the sun, smile a little bit more, stress a little bit less, and just enjoy yourself.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
