Go Shawty, It's Your Birthday!

36

Growing up, I was almost always the shortest in my class. And honestly, it used to really bother me. Why, you ask? Stupidly enough, being short sometimes makes you a pretty easy target for other kids to pick on you. Therefore, being short as a little kid made me pretty self-conscious.Nowadays, I embrace my shortness. Neither of my parents are very tall (my mom is 4'11" and a half and is damn proud of it, and my dad is 5'6" or so). I know now that it's not something I can change. I'm proud of who I am and where I've come from. Being short can be a great thing...you just have to make it so! Embrace the shorty in you. If you're a fellow shorty, there are more advantages to your height than you might think.

  • You have more leg room in the car and on the plane. You can comfortably stretch your tiny legs out in the area in front of your seat without any issues.
  • People often think you are younger than you really are. Sure, it might suck now at times getting carded constantly at the bar for not looking like you're 21, or having to prove to the skeptics that you really are in college, but when you're older you will absolutely love it! My mom always tells me that she gets told she looks so much younger than all of her other friends, and she loves it.
  • This one's for the girls: you basically never have to worry about being taller than your date. This one's pretty self-explanatory.
  • You never have to worry about hitting your head on things. In other words, you undergo less injuries than a person of average height.
  • You can always get your clothes hemmed, and clothes and shoes might be cheaper. Think about this: you can hem pants that are too long on a short person, but you can't alter pants that are too short on a tall person. Also, if you happen to have a small torso and a small shoe size, you may even be able to wear clothes from the petite section and get shoes from the kid's section (cheaper prices, yay!).
  • You can fit comfortably on beds and sofas. Seriously, how do tall people manage when their legs hang off of a bed or the couch?
  • And apparently, shorter people live longer lives and have fewer health issues, according to evidence.

I'm 5'0" tall and I'm proud of it.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
