Choosing a school can be a daunting task. Going through months, even years of deciding which school you want to attend is a serious decision. Once you choose a school though, it becomes clear as to why you did. I chose Western Connecticut State University as the school I wanted to attend, and I am so glad I did.

Here is a list of reasons as to why I love being a Colonial:

1. The mix of friend groups

One thing I love about my school is the diverse group of friends. You can be an arts major and have best friends who are science majors. I think the mixing of friend groups is extremely beneficial.

2. The easy access to food

Having a hectic class schedule makes it hard to find time to eat. Luckily the student centers are easily accesible from the classroom buildings and residence halls.

3. The family like vibe my major brings

Being a theatre major personally I was worried I would feel a competitive like vibe from everyone. Luckily, everyone is loving and supportive of one another and only wants success and the best for everyone.

4. The combination of small town and city

Western Connecticut State University's location is in Danbury, CT. I love this location because it has a great mix of suburban feelings with the feel of a city.

5. The dedication to excellence

Despite being a state public school, West Conn is an extremely driven place. It is easy to forget that is a state school because of how professional and determined the education basis is.

6. The distance from my home and school

Being from out of state, I should exoect a decent drive from home to the university. However, it is only about a thirty minute drive from the school to my home. This is a good distance to feel close to home but still feel as though I've gone away.

7. How even when I'm at school, I still feel like I'm home

One of the hardest parts about being in school is missing my family and friends from home. However, my fellow Colonials have become like family to me. Spending nine months together brings people really close.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

The Belchers hold the key to a better life.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
