We all hear about our peers switching colleges and changing their major, and if you’re like me, you’re always super excited for them. I’m always so glad that they are pursuing their dreams even if not what’s expected. But I never thought that changing my major was a route I would take. I was committed to my college and my future career. I mean I’ve already told everyone what I’m going to do for the rest of my life so obviously there’s no going back now. But let me just tell you there’s always the opportunity to change your mind and follow your dreams.
Just because you’ve declared a major doesn’t mean you have to stick with it. Most college students change their major at least once and some more than that. College is all about discovering who you really are and coming into your own. Think about the person you were the day you graduated high school and think of who you are now. You’re not the same person. You’ve changed and grown and learned so much in college and that’s OK. You’re allowed to grow into yourself and chase after your dreams, even if it means changing your original plan. Yes, it’s scary to change the plan you’ve had since you were a senior in high school but scary isn’t a bad thing. Nothing worth doing ever came without a risk and risks can be really scary sometimes. But at the end of the day, you’re the one who has to live with this degree for the rest of your life. Get a degree in what you’re passionate about because that passion is going to transfer into what you spend the rest of your life doing. Each one of us has been blessed with our own set of things were passionate about and how sad would it be to let that go to waste.
You’ll never regret doing something you love. So go ahead and change your major. Get that degree that makes you excited to wake up and go to your classes every day. Get the degree that’s going to make you happy because, at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
