I am an art student, and in one of my classes, we were assigned the task of creating a continuous line self-portrait. Obviously, our professor meant our faces, because it is one of everyone's most discerning features. However, after receiving the assignment, I began to consider my own identity, and realized that if I had to pick a feature that most defined me, it wouldn't be my face - it would be my legs. I was born with a disability with a very long name that is difficult to spell, but essentially, my ankle of my right foot was completely fused, I had a shortened Fibula, a small right foot, and only nine toes. Needless to say, learning to walk was difficult, let alone more strenuous activities. It affected my personality in a million ways as I grew up, from the hobbies I pursued, to the friends I made. I learned to stand up for myself, to never let anything hinder me. It was never easy, but it was - and continues to be - a crucial part of my identity, and I would never change it for the world. My face may be my most discerning feature, but my legs - those are most discerning of my growth, of my ability, of my strengths. They are my self-portrait.
