Disclaimer: There are spoilers up ahead for The Walking Dead. If you don't want to risk it, don't continue reading!
Rest In Peace Glenn.
Glenn, you were more than just a character from a television show to people all across the world. Throughout the series The Walking Dead, you have fought through many hardships and came through in clutch for the group more times than I could count. In the very first episode of "The Walking Dead," you showed compassion in a world that seemed more than hopeless.
As Rick Grimes was in the military tank hiding from all of the walkers, you radioed into him on the CB Radio. If it wasn’t for the good nature of Glenn, we would not have a television series that we have all come to love and watch every Sunday. As the series went on, we saw you mature from a young, well-natured pizza delivery boy into a brave and fearless man.
When you met Maggie, it was a moment that almost of all us could relate to. Maggie was the girl who you felt an instant connection with. It didn’t matter that you hardly knew her or that she picked on you when you first met. That connection with another human being is something all people yearn for. We were lucky enough to see that relationship with Maggie blossom into a marriage in a hopeless world.
We almost lost Glenn multiple times throughout the series. Back in season four, Glenn gets sick in the prison and it appeared as though we would lose him but he managed to pull through. In season six Glenn got trapped on top of a dumpster completely surrounded by walkers and we all assumed the worst but Glenn ended up narrowly escaping. Even though we’ve already had to worry about Glenn dying multiple times in the past it still did not prepare anyone for the season 7 premiere.
Watching as Glenn got his brains beaten out of his skull in front of his pregnant wife was absolutely brutal. Before taking the final blow that put him down for good he turned to Maggie and said “I will find you,” meaning in this life or the next Glenn would always be watching out for her. Heartbreaking.
Glenn Rhee, gone but not forgotten. You will be sorely missed, thank you for six great seasons.
