The Glam Girls Club is a local non-profit organization in Cabot, Arkansas with the goal of uniting young girls and giving them the and resources required for them to dream big and grow confidence in themselves. The organization was founded by a local business woman, and mother of two, Jamie Still. Jamie founded Glam Girls Club in refusal to allow her daughters to grow up with fewer opportunities than they should be given due to the stigma of being a young girl. She wanted to be sure they, along with others, had a place they could grow, be challenged, and build life skills while building confidence. She wanted to provide a safe and caring environment for the girls to fulfill this need at no cost to the girls.
In order to provide funding for Glam Girls Club, Jamie uses the profit she makes from her small boutique, Glamakus. She provides food for the girls at their club meetings and provides any supplies needed for their activities. The girls learn life skills, participate in community service, craft, and participate in community festivals as a way to grow, unite, and fulfill their passion for learning and trying new things.
Recently, Glam Girls Club held an election for a club president in order to learn how the campaigning and election processes work. The election was held in the Community Room of the Cabot Public Library and hosted guest speaker Judge Joe O'Bryan who spoke to the girls about taking opportunities and not being afraid to follow their dreams.
The girls were able to vote for their favorite party and candidate in the Cake v. Pie debate after hearing each candidate make their campaign speeches and answer a few questions regarding the Glam Girls' concerns for the club. These girls worked hard on their campaigns and talking points, as well as campaign commercials and posters.
In the end, the cake party won by two votes, and the candidates hugged it out and congratulated each other on their hard work and accomplishments.
This program is a safe haven for these young girls. They really appreciate being able to have a place that is always looking out for their best interest, a place that they can come and be free from the things that they struggle with day-to-day. They are at home at the Glam Girls Club and for many, it is the highlight and brightest part of the week. These girls come together to talk about shared struggles, help each other, help the community, and build lasting friendships.
The Glam Girls Club hosts girls ages 8-15, and the girls do not age out of the program. Before the girls turn 15 they start going through leadership skill building activities and can become mentors when they turn 16 for the younger girls in the club. Meetings are on Mondays at 5:30-7:30pm, with additional meetings when needed. Meetings are located in the back of the Glamakus boutique at 918 West Main Street, Suite 2A in Cabot, Arkansas by Silverscreen Movie Theatre.
Jamie Still has a huge heart for these girls and the work she does with them. It is her biggest passion, but like everything else, the hard work does not come without struggle. The Glam Girls Club is growing, and at nearly 60 girls involved, the club is quickly outgrowing their meeting space at the back of Jamie's boutique. Jamie is holding fundraisers to help raise money to put toward a new space for the girls, and she is accepting volunteers with a heart for children as well.
The girls are holding a Family Royal Ball fundraiser on March 2nd, 2017. It is being sponsered by Magicae Mathematica. To purchase tickets to this fundraiser, volunteer, and find out more about Glam Girls Club, contact Jamie Still at (501)580-8134.
