Living With A Maine Coon Cat

Who knew that a free little kitten we found online would be the most special cat brought into my family's life.

In Autumn of 2013, my mom searched for weeks to find the best kitten she could for my sister for her Christmas present that year. She had finally found a kitten online that was for free. Little did we know then how special this kitten would really be. When we got him we thought it was very odd how big he was for his age. He was only seven-weeks-old when we first got him and we thought he was so much older. He had the fluffiest tail I had ever seen. It looked just like a raccoon's tail! His tail was so fluffy that I thought that he was scared all the time! Tucker is the absolute most loving cat I had ever come across in my life. His purr was always so loud that you could hear it all the way across the room! On Christmas morning that year when my sister got to meet her new fur baby she was overwhelmed with joy. Even more so when she learned how lovable he was.

What I love most about him is that he acts just like a dog.

Tucker has always come to me when I've called him and not most cats that I know do that. My other cat, Baby, never comes to anyone when someone calls him. Except for usually my dad, he loves on my dad every single day when he comes home from work, as soon as he walks in the door. It's the craziest thing I have ever seen, my old cat was so mean so it's very unusual to me.

He is unquestionably the most lovable cat that I have ever seen.

Every single night before I go to bed he tries to follow me into my room so I can love on him. If I don't pet him the entire time he is in there, he bites and claws at me until I do, but he is pretty gentle when he does it (sometimes he isn't.) When I let him in my room he won't leave my side so I can never sleep with him in my room; I always have to kick him out. Then he will go straight to my sister's room and do the same exact thing to her. He also will fight my sister's fiancée if he tries to take her attention away from him.

He is the biggest cat I have ever seen.

Everyone always comments on his size. He is even bigger than our shitzu that we have! He is an outdoor cat part of the time, we can never seem to keep him inside of the house. Maine coons are pretty much born to be hunters

Pretty much the only thing I don't like about him is that he is a natural born killer.

Every now and then he will bring back all different types of animals to the bottom of our porch steps. Most of the time the animals aren't actually dead and my sister tries to heal them so they can go back into the wild. He usually brings back baby bunnies, chipmunks, birds and bats. My sister wants to be a veterinarian one day so she always tries the best she can and if she thinks the animal will still survive she will take it to the rehabilitation center. We can never be mad at Tucker when he brings back animals, we know that they are gifts for us. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
