Giving God your Desires

We all have dreams and hopes—things we want so desperately. It could be a job, or an accomplishment you desire to achieve or even a relationship. How often we clench these dreams in our fist and try to make them reality. Yet, God desires that we open our fist and give our hopes to Him.

We want so we plot and scheme to get what we prize. But what if that prize is not what you think it will be? What if there is another way, another path that God has for you? Do you trust Him to lead you, even if it is not where you initially wanted to go?

Maybe the relationship you pray for is not what God has in mind? Faith is trusting God with every bit and piece of our lives. Self-rule was extinguished when we came to salvation because we recognize a higher power now. God knows our every hope and desire. He made us for goodness sake. Don’t you think He knows what is best for you?

So trust, my friend. Surrender.

Trust and let go because our clench fist will only inflict pain. Maybe what you desire is along God’s plan for you. Do you trust Him to get you there? Maybe it isn’t. Still, God is good and you can trust Him. Maybe He is telling you to be patient. Will you trust Him in the waiting?

The problem with humanity is our inclination to make things happen on our own. Consider what could occur if you gave God an open hand, ready to receive whatever He has for you.

Consider the blessing and peace of mind that comes with trusting in Him instead of yourself.

God doesn’t do things our way.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”

Isaiah 55:8

God knows every step of our path. He doesn’t reveal it all at once because He wants us to trust Him—to act on our faith. And sometimes acting is simply being still and trusting God—listening to Him before acting out of our own desire. Striving to create our own dreams are futile. God needs to be a part of the equation.

“Unless the Lord builds the house,

those who build it labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city,

the watchman stays awake in vain.”

Psalm 127:1

Do we doubt that He is good? Do we doubt that He will provide? Do we really think we are more capable of creating our own happiness?

God is more concerned with your joy than your happiness. Happiness fades while joy is eternally placed in our relationship with Him.

The closer you get to Him the more God can and will shape your desires to match His. Come and draw near to Him.

So will you trust Him? Will you pry open your clenched fingers and open your hand in surrender to God’s plan, knowing He will be with you wherever and His plans are good.

Releasing our desires to God is not easy, but oh is it worth it.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
