Give yourself a two-week notice.
“Uh, what?”
Did anyone else want to go out and get a tattoo the second they turned 18 just because you finally could? I definitely did and I almost went through with it. I visited tattoo shops with amazingly talented artists, showed them the sunflower, told them that I wanted it on my right shoulder, they gave me a price quote and gave me dates that they were available within the next week. I saved up, I did my research on tattoo placement and parlors; I thought I was ready, but the more I thought about it the more hesitant I became. I decided I would wait two weeks to see if I still actually wanted to do it. The result? I am tattoo-less. I still want to get a tattoo, but right now isn’t the time for it.
I am not discounting the excitement and fun of making a spontaneous trip to get a tattoo and getting that something you have wanted forever or going and doing whatever you want nor am I saying you should give yourself a two-week notice for every choice you make. The point I am trying to make is, wait two weeks from your first thought to actually contemplate if you really want to do this or if you're better off waiting.
This was the first lesson I learned at 18, to actually think out the decisions I am making or about make before doing something I may regret.
