True success is all about balance!
So for the sake of your personal and professional development, please don't ever feel like you're unaccomplished for recognizing that you've taken on too much and then taking a step back to solve the issue.
For so long, I'd book myself completely busy because I wanted to be a go-getter, exhausting all of the many opportunities at my finger tips to race toward success and making every new friend I could.
I didn't want to pass anything or anyone by in case that could be the one that jump starts my career, or journey to happiness, or exciting new adventure, or whatever I was searching for at the time!
But I've realized something important while being constantly overwhelmed...
While aiming high and checking off goals is a great thing, finding a steady pace is necessary. You don't want to burn out too soon.
You can't continue steady success or put forth your best effort if you're spread way too thin mentally.
Making sure you're only taking on only as much as your mind can handle as opposed to how much black space your calendar planner still has can makes all the difference in the long marathon, not race, to ultimate success.
Now to rebut your argument of "my mental health, I'll be happy when I'm successful..."
First of all, what even is "success." It's different for everyone. So make sure you're chasing your own personal definition of success or you're going to be sadly disappointed at the lack of fulfillment you feel once you reach someone else's *success destination*.
And let's say you really don't care about your mental health, for arguments sake. I have news for you - your employer does whether they verbalize/realize that or not. And your romantic partner, friends, and family sure do too.
Would you rather have a sleepy-eyed, scatter brained future employee or friend who is kind of alright at the 20 things on their resume or kind of present the 20 times you hangout with them each month?
Or would you rather have a bright-eyed, focused, and collected employee or friend who is fantastic at 5 things on their resume or extremely present the 5 times you hangout with them each month due to the time and dedication they've been able to allow by not being spread too thin?
Monitoring your mental health goes hand in hand with true success. Take care of yourself.
Booked and busy is great as long as you're booking in time for self care and mental rest too.
Pencil that in.
