Give Me Time To Grieve

I'll accept his presidency but I'm still grieving.

Give me time. My candidate did not win the 2016 Election and I’m still grieving. I’m disappointed, disheartened and disturbed.

I never thought a crass reality star would become my president, but I guess I had higher expectations in America. I think what I’m most upset about it is the girls in our nation that will grow up thinking a man who says “grab them by the pussy” is fit to be president. Is that really ok?

I guess I didn’t realize America was still so sexist against women. It blows my mind that a woman candidate that has been in politics her whole life was defeated by a man that never worked in politics a day in his life. I guess he is just a grenade to the system.

I don’t know what you think about it all, heck you may have voted for Trump to “make America great again.” But I always thought America was great. We have our setbacks and obviously this is one of them. You don’t have to agree with me because I don’t agree with Donald Trump being the president-elect. I don’t agree with how he treats women, African Americans, Hispanics and the disabled. I don’t agree with his environmental policies. I don’t agree with his Vice President. I don’t agree with him.

However, I’m not going to mock you if you voted for Trump like he mocks his critics. I’m not going to sit back and watch his presidency unfold either. I’m going to fight like hell and make sure candidates that I agree with will be elected into office. I’m going to make sure girls don’t think misogynistic comments are the norm. I’m going to fight for control over my body and I will fight the wage gap. I’m going to join arms with minorities to make sure violence is not used against them. I’m going to fight to combat climate change. I’m going to fight to win.

But, I won’t say Donald Trump is “not my president” because I live in America and guess what, he is. I’ll accept it. I won’t like it and I won't agree with it, but I’ll accept it.

I see his presidency as a setback for America, but life is full of setbacks. We do not just sit back, though, we show up with a positive attitude and get involved. I’m not going to let America regress because my candidate didn’t get elected. I'm willing to work together and I’m going to keep climbing and reaching for progress. I’ll treat others with kindness and I’ll move on just give me time.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
