To me one of the best parts of joining a sorority was getting my big. Not only is she my big but she is my best friend, my go to and the one girl who I know will always have my back, but tell me to cut the shit if I'm wrong. You gain and entire family line when you get a big. Although your big will always be your favorite. She'll always be the one your closest to in the chapter. With a big, you'll always have someone to hangout with, do homework with, or go to lunch with. A lot of people won't know what I'm talking about, but a lot of you will. Anyone whose a part of the Greek Life family will. They'll relate to this article more than others. Like I said, having a big is like always having someone to hang out with, even if it's just doing homework at midnight and talking about literally everything and anything. Your big is the first person you call when you get into trouble, she'll yell at you and then laugh at you and or with you. The big is the one sister you know will always have your back and fight for you and with you when things go wrong. A big is a sister chosen by you and for you to always be your best friend and to guide you. My big and I met during fall recruitment and the moment we met each other, we knew that we wanted each other as big and little. There was just this connection. We've only known each other since September but it feels like so much longer. You kind of claimed me as your little from the beginning and I knew that I wanted you as my big and best friend. Bigs are all of these things in one, best friend, guide , defender and literally just your persona We just instantly bonded. Nobody was surprised when we became big and little because we are literally so similar that it's scary. The " I'm kidnapping you, be ready in ten" texts always end up with us either going on some weird adventures or just hanging in your dorm doing homework. Or attempting to. Yes, she's the crazy, beautiful sister I get you all my big and my best friend. But to me, she's more than that. She's the one I'll always have a special connection with because we're both so similar and got close instantly. Because I know she's always got my back and I'll never feel alone. With big, I'll never be alone. I know I'll always have someone in my corner and that's a pretty great thing. So anyway this one is for you Biggie. I love you so much. 4. Being barefoot 24/7 is an option.
Obviously wearing no shoes in the middle of a blizzard isn't acceptable. You know what is, though? Wearing no shoes in the summer ever because why not?
5. Ice cream is an acceptable snack.
For people like me who can't resist ice cream even on a 10 degree day, summer is a giant ice cream blessing. Not only does it taste like heaven, it's actually refreshing.
6. Minimal clothing is required.
Is there anything worse than having to put on layers in the wintertime only to sweat to death the minute you come back inside? No need for more than a tank top and shorts in the summertime.
7. Going to the beach daily isn't weird.
Now that it's hot, it's beach season. If you live near the ocean there is an excuse to drive there day or night, rain or shine. Staying there all day is an option for those who don't burn, and for those who do, you can always come back at night for a bonfire.
8. Cookouts.
Even when they lead to disaster, summertime cookouts are the best. Nothing completes a cookout more than watermelon and corn on the cob.
9. Night swimming.
Oh the thrill of jumping in freezing cold water in the middle of the night. Good thing the air becomes colder than the water, making the pool like a giant bathtub.
10. Spontaneous adventures.
Summertime gives you the freedom to wake up in the morning and decide to do something totally out of the blue that you've never done before. Hiking to a waterfall, rock climbing, going to a museum, or even road tripping are all great summer options.
Even if the heat isn't really your thing, it's undeniable to admit that life really is better in the summer. There's so much more free time, opportunity, excitement and sunshine. Only four months to go!
