Four reasons you should give a dog a home for the holidays

Home for the Holidays

This year, home for the Holiday’s has a new meaning for my family. On Friday November 25, Black Friday, we brought home a new addition to family, Bonnie. Bonnie is a six-year old hound mix and was previously homed at the Lynchburg Humane Society with hundreds of other dogs. The Lynchburg Humane Society along with many other humane society’s across the country do specials that let you take home these dogs for little to no money, that means there is more freed up money for you to shower them in love. So far the humane society had over 2,820 animals adopted during their program and their are still SO many loving and furry friends (cats too!) that could use some warmth and love this holiday season. Here are some hopefully convincing reasons that would make you consider getting a new furry friend not only for the holidays but forever!

1. They are the gift that keeps on giving

Dogs are the best gift you could have because they give you unconditional love no matter what. You make a mistake, the dog doesn’t care, and he will be there to greet you no matter what. You forget to bring him cake on his birthday (yes, we get our dogs a cake), they don’t care, they will still be there on the couch to watch that movie you have seen 300 times.

2. Dogs can keep you safe

You are never home alone with a dog around, they will help you shoo off the mail man, or keep you company when you are there in the dark. They will sleep with you when you are alone and will sniff out anything out of the ordinary for you!

3. They will help keep your floors clean

We now have three dogs and our floors have never been cleaner. Whether your cooking and you drop something in transportation or you are at the dinner table and food falls off your fork (or you just don’t like it and you throw it under there to get rid of it), dogs are always there to clean up your mess.

4. You will always have someone to talk to.

Dogs are always there to listen to anything you have to say, good or bad. Whether you are upset or super excited talking to an animal is one of the only times you can talk and get everything out without anyone talking back.

These are only a few of the many reasons that bringing a dog home for the holidays will be a decision that you won't forget. We know that Bonnie will give us way more love than we ever deserve and will bring us more happiness than we can even imagine. Go get your dog and see the happiness and love that it could bring to you and your family.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
