If you give a girl a dog she will smile ear to ear. While she giggles, loves and hugs and pets she will stop in realization. She needs to give the dog a name. Once the dog has a name and she has said it countless times, she will ask for a name tag, so everyone else knows what to call him! When you go to get a tag, she will insist a phone number be engraved in case he gets away.
Once she has a tag with name and number, she will need a collar. Not a black one or a gray one, but one with a bow tie. She will only be content with the collar and the tag if there is a matching leash to go with it! She will use that leash to take her dog on a walk.
She will start walking in the neighborhood. But, once the houses can be memorized and the dog has lost interest in the tree he was once so fond of, she will ask to be taken to the dog park, then the mountain trail, then the pond she heard about 15 miles away. When her chauffeur gets tired of driving her and the dog, she will ask for a car.
Once she a has a car, nothing special, just something to get from place to place, she will need a harness for the dog. Once she has the dog harness to keep him in the front seat, she will need a new CD to play with the windows down.
She is content for a moment. She will take her dog adventuring and running and around the block in the car with the music playing. But, then she will move out. She will take the dog with her, but now he needs a new tag with her own number. Once she gets the tag, she will get him a bed as a new house warming gift.
Although she struggles with the bills and stress is filling, she will come home to find comfort with her dog, and drift off to a happy sleep with him by her feet until the alarm wakes for the morning.
Soon, she will meet a boy. And that first boy won't like her dog. So, she meets a new boy. Now, if you give a girl with a dog a boy, you will find she cannot ask for more. Until life gets boring.
Then, the girl, her dog and the boy, will pack up their bags, the harness and the CD, pile in the new car that is much fancier than the old and they will travel. They will hike the mountains and camp in their tent, walk through the cities and have lots of drive-thru dinners. Eventually, they will come home.
The girl and her dog will then be standing at the end of the aisle as she says "I do." If you give a girl a husband, she will find herself, again, not asking for more. Until life again, gets boring.
Because she's had a dog, and knows how to raise a pet, she will think she is ready to raise a baby. If you give a girl a dog and a husband, she will want a baby.
When the girl gets the baby, the dog will fill with love. He will smell her and lick her and snuggle near her crib. He will even allow her to pull his ears and yank his tail because she is his.
But, when you give a girl a dog, a car, a home, a husband and a baby, time has taken over. And as time has taken over, the girl will grow bigger and the dog will grow older. When the dog grows older, when he has seen all the trails and listened to all the CD and watched the baby take her first steps, he will be tired.
If you give a girl a dog, she will love more than she ever knew she could love. If you give a girl a dog, letting go will be much harder than she believed. If you give a girl a dog, she will always remember, and always give thanks - not to her dog, but her very best friend.
