A Girl's Guide To Finals Week

We can get through.

Finals week is either about to be, or already upon all of us. A week associated with overloads of stress, not getting enough sleep, too many assignments that are worth a decent percentage of your grade, and of course studying for exams. Here're some tips and tricks to help get a girl through.

Have a good place to study. This obviously could be different for everyone. Whether it be the library or your bedroom, make sure you have a place you can shut off the noise and get into your studying mindset without being distracted by Netflix and Pinterest. Know what distracts you and make sure you aren’t putting yourself right into a trap.

Set the mood. Get in your place. If you like to study to music, have your playlist up. If you need snacks or gum with you, have it at the ready. Keep a bottle of water with you. Turn off your phone if you need to. Light a candle; different smells, like mint, help with memory and relaxation. I like the stress one from Bath and Body Works, which is eucalyptus mint and can come in different forms if you can’t light candles in your dorm.

Treat yourself. This comes in multiple ways. I do it while studying, for starters. Your mind only really focuses for about twenty minutes before it needs a break. What I do is for everyone twenty minutes I study or do work, I can watch one YouTube video. Whatever it is. 10 minutes on social media, getting a snack, whatever will get you through. Then, of course, you should treat yourself at the end. You just spent all day studying? Go get a smoothie with your friends! You got a B+ on that paper you just killed yourself over? Get that new lipstick you really want. Road trip when all the finals are over with? Whatever it is, do it.

Take care of yourself. I know that sometimes you can’t get around losing a little sleep and that you need your coffee to get you through the next day. But taking care of yourself is important. Try your best to get in some exercise, even if you just walk your dog or around campus. It’s not only good for your body but helps de-stress. Make sure you're eating when you should, and not just fatty snacks while you study. All that caffeine and lack of sleep leaves your body dehydrated. Drink water! It’s important every day but especially during finals. If your body isn’t ready, your mind isn’t ready.

Getting through it with your best face forward. I know wearing sweatpants with your hair in a bun all week is how you envision finals week going down. But the better you look, the better you feel. Plan out outfits that are comfortable but will make you feel good. Make sure your moisturizing, like I said the caffeine and lack of sleep will dehydrate you, including your skin! For my body I use a natural glow moisturizer; summer is right around the corner of course. I try to wash my face in the morning (helps wake you up and your skin look good for the day) with a moisturizer that fights acne to keep my skin soft and keep those stress pimples away. Concealer, mascara, and blush are all you need to brighten up a sleepy face.

Just keep reminding yourself it's only one week and we will all get through it. The end is very near. It will be okay.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
