Ever since I could remember I've had freckles. Not only would these tiny dots rest on my face, but they are weirdly all over my shoulders, chest, arms, and knees. My freckles have always been apart of me and I honestly love them. I thought it would be interesting to actually do some research about why I have so many while others do not. So, to begin with, I'm going to tell you where exactly freckles come from.
Our skin has melanocytes, which are cells that make your pigment darker, called melanin. Most normal people have these cells spread out evenly throughout the body, which causes the skin to fade into a nice tan when exposed to the sun. People with freckles, on the other hand, do not have these cells evenly spread out. They are bunched in groups which causes the freckles to appear when exposed to sunlight. This happens to mainly to fair-skinned individuals. (also people with red hair too, aka me)
Freckles also change color. That means our skin has many different shades to keep things interesting, right? During the summer months when more time is spent in the sun, freckles get darker. During the winter when there is little exposure to the sun, freckles can dramatically fade. This is completely normal by the way. However, if a freckle grows darker and darker even when not exposed to sunlight, or even grows in size these are red flags. People with fair skin are more likely to develop skin cancer, so it is important to get any sketchy freckle checked out by a dermatologist.
Girls with freckles are also very handy to have around because they will always have a full supply of sunscreen on them.
Lets say this girl with freckles is your girlfriend. When you two are bored, out of ideas on what to do, you can count how many are on her face! That will pass the time real well.
Girls with freckles are rad because some girls go to the extent of drawing on fake freckles, while we are born with them. Our genetics ain't no costume, hunny.
Also, girls who truly embrace their freckles actually wear less make up than others. I personally, do not like to cover them up so I don't cake on that foundation or bronzer stuff. (I also don't know anything about make up, I'm not sure if that applies to all girls with freckles.) It also saves me a lot of money.
Girls with freckles will forever be "cute." Honestly, though. To this day I am still told that they are cute at age 21.
Giraffes are our spirit animals. No explanation necessary.
Basically, girls with freckles are better than girls without. We have something unique that changes with the seasons. We can cover them up if we chose, or we can also appear with a natural look and keep them exposed. There is really nothing better than a girl who embraces her freckles and stands out with confidence.
