A Girl's Favorite Picture Pose: Candid

Most of the time, everywhere we go someone will say, “Let's take a picture!” And yes, you know it is always bound to happen. So we ask ourselves, what makes a candid picture, candid?

Candid: A picture that your mom took because she didn’t know how to work the camera on your phone. (Then you go to check the picture she took, finding a front camera selfie of her because she didn’t switch the screen.)

A true candid is when you are looking through the pictures taken, and you laugh endlessly at the mistakenly taken photos. Those are the best true candids, when they catch you with your best, worst, or most humorous pose.

Fact: A candid photo is a real candid when you did not tell the person taking the photo to take a candid.

Now, here is a statement that most girls will admit to: this is their favorite pose. When taking a picture it is always smile, do a funny face, smile again. Yet, you want a cute, memorable photo of you with your friend, or family “caught off guard.” So you tell the person taking a picture, “Take a picture of us laughing.” “Okay guys, I want a candid picture quick.” So you position yourself to start laughing... “Take good shots of us laughing, wait hold on I need to switch sides.” Some people get way too into it. “You can’t look at the camera, wait pay attention.” “Laugh right now, pretend we are drunk.” Then you actually laugh realizing how ludicrous you look. Some people will end up walking away after the third picture because they feel awkward, like me sometimes.

We should never care how people view us in public, even though deep down in certain situations we do. So when you are at a bar in school, fraternity party, or even a small get together with friends and family, pictures are going to be a must. That is when some get embarrassed of their friends. One smiling picture, and an accidental flash is cool. Then… “Okay come here we need a candid picture” and you are thinking to yourself, am I really going to fake laugh in front of people for a picture? They should’ve asked to take a candid where no one was looking. Afterward, you view the pictures. Some you delete because they were too blurry, others you keep because you look good. You HAVE to delete certain ones because your friend does not like the angle. Finally you review all of your pictures finding blurry cute ones. Or you have that one girl who made sure she showed her beer in her hand so people knows she drinks, while your other friend hides her red solo cup because she doesn’t want her parents to see.

These are truthful words that a lot of girls will admit to. We all have that one friend who does this. You will always need a friend who knows to take random picture shots, because let's be real, asking a guy to take a candid photo isn’t the first situation we want to be put in.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
