Girls, Don't Limit Yourselves

You can do anything you want.

Girls, Don't Limit Yourselves
Ambivalently Yours

I have had many deep conversations with many great women. The cover photo is pretty significant. When one girl succeeds and you don't, don't be negative about it. You should go up to her and ask her how she did it, congratulate her and be proud that another girl has done it, learn and progress. I've seen so many girls sabotage one another to get what they want. But why degrade that other girl when you can empower her instead? Why damage her confidence when you can be the one who boosted it?

Guys are so much different, they are really good at lifting one another up. Even out the playing field ladies.

This being said women and girls can get so far in life if we'd empower one another, honestly, we are so catty and judgmental. When you're intimidated by another female in your mind you can think of some pretty nasty things to say to her so you would feel better, but why do that. If women came together we could accomplish so much more together.

First things first,

I'm extremely lucky to have been born into a family of wonderful, powerful women. At a very young age I was taught to be well rounded, which is what I think all girls should be taught. I mean do both. I grew up cooking, cleaning, pitching tents, taking out the trash, helping my dad fix things.

I wouldn't be into half the things I love doing if I was raised as a stereotypical girl.

"Girls aren't supposed to be good at playing video games, especially not CoD."

Tell that to my K/D ratio. I pretty much held the team, there are so many guys who talk smack whenever they see a girl playing video games, don't listen to them and do you, because you are a beast.

Girls can pretty much do anything a guy can do, maybe even better. Stereotypes are silly and are meant to limit the group they are trying to target. Words shouldn't frighten you, they can easily be erased.

"Girls can't board."

Looks like she's doing it pretty well, and oh look, she's in a dress with fairy wings attached.

"Girls can't run for president."

She may be our next president y'all.

Speaking of amazing women here are a few you should know.

Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier, these two were geneticists who developed a gene-altering technique that helps with fighting against vast amounts of diseases.

Coco Chanel, fashion designer, she took men's clothes and redesigned them for women's benefits.

Bethany Hamilton, professional surfer who survived a shark attack that left her without an arm, she's still competing.

Wangari Maathai, Kenyan women who won a noble peace prize for work and efforts to help prevent conflict through protection of scarce resources.

Patti McGee, first woman to become a pro-skateboarder after winning the women's national skateboarding championship.

There you have it amazing women who are amazing at doing whatever they want.

If you think just because you're a girl you can't do things, it's totally false. You can do anything you want, if anyone tells you other wise well, show them you can do it. They will look like jerks, and you'll be paving a new path for other girls and proving to yourself that you could do it despite what people say.

Girl, you got it.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
