I am blessed to be surrounded by so many #girlbosses: women that conquer their lives rather than simply surviving it. They are independent, intelligent, and dedicated to doing what they love and doing it well.

However, during the pursuit of success, it’s not uncommon for a #girlboss to forget about her essence, what makes her amazing on her own. Here are four reminders we #girlbosses need to remember on our way to the stars:

1. Learn how to find balance

Being a #girboss is all about thriving in most aspects of life. With that being said, being well-rounded is not easy. We’re going to make a lot of sacrifices and even more mistakes: but that’s okay. On our path to achieve big things, we’re going to have to decide how much time is worth putting into fulfilling our dreams. How much time do we have to sacrifice from other aspects of our life? If you find yourself putting your work and dreams ahead of things like spending time with family or even yourself, you need to reevaluate your decisions. Dreams and goals are important, but at what cost?

2. Support your peers

Watching women collaborate to achieve their dreams is incredibly inspiring. It moves me to know that powerful women around the world have begun to ignore the imposed narrative that everything must be a competition and there can be only one winner. One woman’s success can help and push another woman towards her success.

3. Reach out if you need to

Being a #girlboss means working hard and shining while letting our fellow ladies do the same. However, attempting to do both can potentially develop a couple issues. We may become so completely engulfed in our pride that we are unable to reach out and ask for help. Or sometimes we may be so consumed in our work that we forget to look around and offer a helping hand to someone who may need it. The path to success is scary and unpredictable; we must ask for and offer help whenever possible to make achieving our success easier for us along with those around us. That’s the #girlboss thing to do.

4. Stay true to yourself

Never compromise your morals, values, or integrity for anyone or anything. We are our own brand and only put our best selves forward. We do things the right way. Whether it be working with people who mirror our beliefs or simply just mapping out a clear-cut business plan on our own, we stay true to ourselves and our values. No amount of money can change who we inherently are.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
