We accept the love we think we deserve, and you deserve the best. You may not see it, but I do.

Sweet sister,

I know what’s going on in your mind. I’ve been there, and I’d argue to say we’ve all been there at one point. You’ve been dumped, ghosted, ignored, abused or cheated on. You’ve put your beautiful heart in the hands of a man who didn’t know the true value of what he held. You believed a lie, and now you’re struggling with the idea that you could still care for someone who hurt you so bad.

Friend, a man does not determine your worth. No human does. Have you forgotten? YOU determine your identity, no one else. YOU can choose whom to be everyday. YOU look yourself in the mirror every morning and shape the rest of your day. It’s all about you. Don’t let someone else tell you otherwise.

Now I’m a big believer in the theory that the world doesn’t revolve around you. The world spins madly on as your personal haven crumbles. But I want you to see this as an opportunity. Look that man in the eye, give him a smirk and some curse words, and then walk away like the queen you are. Maybe you’re not looking at a man, maybe you’re staring at your own self in the mirror and dealing with your insecurities. They do not own you. You choose the image that’s reflected.

I’ve watched you in this cycle of hurt and I’m tired of it. I’m tired of seeing you run to men for attention, let your uncertainties control you, and not stand up for yourself. I know sometimes it’s hard to be strong enough. Let me stand beside you, we can be strong together.

We accept the love we think we deserve. You deserve the best. I know sometimes you don't see it, but I do. You are worthy of a brilliant love. A love that causes you to smile when you wake up, dance to love songs on the radio, and use corny Instagram hashtags you swear you never would. But first, you have to love yourself.

You have so much to offer in this big, bad world. You were put here to make the world better, and I don’t want to see someone hold you back or distract you from that. I want to slap that pretty face of yours and tell you to WAKE UP. This life is too short to not be treated like you deserve.

Cry it out, let your hurt be known, and do not dwell there. Stand confident that your joy does not come from another, and know that you will be stronger because of this.

This world is full of ugly, broken humans, and chances are you’ll be hurt again. Over and over and over. But you can handle it. There is always a tomorrow, always a new sunrise, and always a stranger willing to stand up for you. I’m right here.

No love is perfect, but you deserve the love you’ve been desiring and craving your whole life. I hope you have the courage to be alone until you find that. Being alone will define you into the badass woman I know you are.

Heartbreak will never be the end of you. Another human will never determine your worth. I can’t even tell you what to think of yourself. But I’m on your side. I believe the best in you, and I believe that you’re worthy of the best of the best. As the author Kathryn Stockett reminded us in her novel ‘The Help,’

“You is kind,

you is smart,

you is important.”

Love,

Your dear friend Ariana

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
