Living In Girl World

Being At War

Living In Girl World

It is safe to say everyone has seen the movie "Mean Girls". Being younger that was our only interpretation of Girl World. Being older and living in actual Girl World is awful. In my Mom’s words, “girls are assholes.” Every day is a constant competition for no reason. Who can get the guy? Whose butt looks bigger? Who can keep the attention on themselves longest? Why do these things even matter!? Is it primal female instinct or is it just being a petty insecure little bitch? Naturally all I have ever wanted was to have a best-girlfriend, but in Girl World that is easier said than done.

I’ve thought a lot of girls were truly my friend but their actions proved me wrong. If I like a boy and I tell my girlfriend I like a boy, she shouldn’t go out of her way to be all over him in front of me, she shouldn’t be on him at all actually. She shouldn’t tell my secrets or try to outdo me. She shouldn’t pick a boy over me or let his abusiveness come between us. She shouldn’t give up on me. She shouldn’t make me doubt myself or feel less.

I have a reputation for being a bitch, but when it comes to Girl World I have to be one in order to keep my sanity and get by. Growing up it hurt but it wasn’t a surprise that boys would eventually break my heart. It hurts so much more getting your heart broken from a girlfriend because you don’t expect that betrayal. You don’t expect to turn your head and see her locking onto the guy she knows you’ve been dreaming about.

You don’t expect her to hide things from you. What approach does one take in either of these cases? Do you confront her and get labeled a bitch like me? Or do you be sneaky and fight back in petty low key ways? Has your life suddenly become an episode of "One Tree Hill" or "Gossip Girl" (Let’s be honest, even Serena betrayed her best friend Blair like 50 million times and then there is Peyton who went behind Brooke's back and took her boyfriend while they were best friends) Yes, sadly this is Girl World for many young girls and twenty something year olds. The worst part is you get sucked into it and there really is no going back. If you seriously have a girlfriend who has not crossed you over in Girl World than you’re the real winner because for the rest of us it hasn’t been that easy.

My advice? Get some waterproof mascara, be ready to call your Mom because she’ll know what to say, put on some heels so you stand a little taller, get out the lipstick to color your lips, and get ready for war.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
