To The Girl Who Is Still Waiting

Sometimes it hurts so much, your heart feels like it’s crumbling.

We’ve heard that all good things come to those who wait. But you’ve been waiting for SO LONG. Maybe you’re always on the lookout for the man of your dreams. Maybe you aspire to write a novel or buy a farm or start a family or find that perfect job. Maybe you think you will never be happy until you reach that number on the scale until you finally buy the latest iPhone or until you swim with dolphins in Cancún.

You think your life will never be complete until you have xyz.

Let me tell you: there’s not a penny-pinch of truth in that lie.

Maybe you feel miserable with where you are right now. You find yourself longing for something more. You wonder if God sees your aching heart, you wonder if He hears your prayers, you tell Him that if He would only make His will clearer, you would gladly follow Him to the ends of the earth.

You’re not alone.

Abraham grew restless as decades passed without any sign of his promised son. Hannah wept her heart out, pleading with the Lord for a child. God’s people waited centuries for the birth of their hoped-for Messiah.

Maybe you aren’t sure if your throbbing desire is even what God wants for your life. Is it a sinful fancy that clings to you, or is it a whisper of God’s calling? It grips your heart so fiercely that sometimes you have no idea what to do. Do you try to kill it, or do you listen to it?

Maybe you are confident that this is God’s will for your future, but your dream has been shoved to the backburner for now. It eats away at you. You’re scared it’ll forever be unsatisfied.

This is not what you might want to hear…but we won’t get all the answers.

God wants us to trust Him.

That’s all He requires of us, to lay down our cares like wilting flowers at His feet, to sling our brick-heavy backpacks to the ground, to open our hands and to love Him for who He is and what He has done.

To give up trying and to start abiding.

To embrace the here-and-now instead of wishing you were somewhere else.

To redeem the time because there is no better moment to stand up for the truth than RIGHT NOW.

You can find joy where you are if you allow Christ to fill your cup.

He is the only one who can satisfy your yearning soul. Why?

Because He is your Savior.

His life-giving fountain of grace is all you need.

“Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.” ~ Psalm 25:5

Step by step, we follow His lead. We can’t see the end, but that doesn’t matter because all we see is Him, His goodness, and His glory. The more we root ourselves in Him, the more we blossom.

"Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." ~ Psalm 37:4

God will make all your dreams come true—only once your desires align with His. When your joy springs solely from Him, your heart will find its happily ever after.

May He show us more of Himself each and every day.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
