I CAN and WILL do both.

To The Girl Who'd Rather Raise a Family Than A Feminist Protest Sign,

You are right. Social media feeds are constantly filled with quotes on women’s rights, protests with mobs of women and an array of cleverly worded picket signs…

You are also right, GOOD FOR US FOR STANDING UP FOR OUR BELIEFS.

But there is so much more that you are wrong about. As a feminist, I believe in the ideals and the advancement of equality. Which includes education, so I would like to educate you a bit, if you don’t mind.

You raising that white picket fence doesn’t stop you from raising that protest sign either.

The ideals of feminism were built upon the thought process that men, women, trangender, gender fluid, and a gender individuals are all on this level playing field called earth. We, as a world, created feminism in order to allow individuals to chose their own path—as a female football player, a male dancer, the president of the United States and so much more.

We hoped to bend the rules of what “gender roles” are in our society to be able to give light to equality and fairness.

So that includes you, mom and wife-to-be. Because of us feminists, you are able to be who you wish to be without judgement. We do not judge you, so why must you judge us?

You state that you “know that there are more female managers in the workforce than male.” I am one of those female managers in the workforce. Do you understand I had to fight for my spot against a guy with less qualifications than I had? I had to prove myself ten times harder than him, simply because I am a female.

That’s what I’m fighting for.

You state we, as females, claim that if you don’t obtain a powerful position or career you are a disappointment to the gender and it makes you weak.

I, for one, think a mother has the most powerful position in the world. They are raising the next Einsteins, engineers, pro-Football players, professional dancers, and so much more. They are showing these children the world and giving them life.

I am fighting for YOUR daughter to have that choice.

I am so excited for you to take your husband's last name, to bake cookies, and to drive a mom car.

Just like what I will do, a baby on my hip, my husband’s last name, and a peaceful sign in my hand stating “I am a woman, a mom, and I have a career.”

Don’t get feminism twisted. I support you, you support me, we’re in the same world doing and having the right to do what we WANT to do. So guess what?

If that’s what you believe, you’re a feminist too.

Sincerely,

The Girl Who Can And Will Do Both

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
