To The Girl Who Pours Her Whole Self Into Everything

An encouragement to those who are tired of trying so hard

To The Girl Who Pours Her Whole Self Into Everything

This is for the girls who never quit. For those of us who are driven, and who will stop at nothing to accomplish our goals. Please hear me when I tell you, even though it may seem like it sometimes, you are not alone. Oftentimes people will criticize you, and mistake your motivation for arrogance. Other people do not understand that it is your drive that makes you who you are. You are not arrogant. You are a warrior.

I know that you are tired, and I know that most people don’t understand why. Even though to the people around you, it may not seem like you’re carrying a large load, you and I know differently. Because to people like you and me, even the smallest loads are heavy. We don’t know how to halfway do things. When we commit to something we do so with the entirety of our heart and soul. We strive to do things to the best of our ability, and so things that we are not passionate about can become emotionally draining. Because we become so invested, we need to carefully pick and choose the projects we fully invest in. But at the same time, we feel like we have to do everything. We want to be there for people and make them happy. So we overexert ourselves trying to make it all work out, and often forget about our own needs in the process.

I understand. I know how hard you work, even if those around you don’t. I know that the world can seem like a juggling act sometimes, and you are never quite sure how you’re going to handle it all. It may seem hard. It may seem like there is never going to be an end. Sometimes it may seem like the whole world is against you. People know how hard you work at things, and so everyone wants your help with their own personal problems. One thing that I always want you to remember is that it is okay to tell people no, and it is okay to ask for help. It is not selfish. You need to learn how to make yourself your number one priority again. Just because people try and tell you how to live doesn’t mean that you have to listen to them. Understand and embrace your independence.

You are a treasure. Do not ever let anyone tell you that you’re not. You are an increasingly rare breed and I hope that you can see that. I know that life is hard and people suck sometimes. Please don’t let this world knock you down. Because the world needs more people like you. It needs people who are fighters, and who have the motivation to follow their passions with a driven heart. So keep going. Never stop fighting. You are not alone.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
