It's that time of year again! No doubt if you're a college student your news feeds and stories are flooded with girls you kinda-sorta-know promoting fall recruitment at their respective colleges. Here are my top 10 reasons to sign up for that fall rush this year, from a girl who never thought she'd be "the sorority type."

1. Rushing is fun! After all, who doesn't like getting all dressed up?

2. Whether you accept a bid or not, you'll make lasting connections. That girl you talked to every night of recruitment, she still wants to be your friend, even if you don't wear her letters.

3. The joy of accepting a bid. There is no stronger high in this life than receiving a bid from your chapter of choice.

4. Getting your Big. The only thing better than getting a bid is getting a big.

5. The Pan-love! Greek Life isn't exclusive like you see in movies. Sorority girls always have friends in other sororities, and friends who aren't Greek at all.

6. It really is a home away from home, and a family away from family.

7. SO. MANY. FUN. EVENTS. Sisterhoods, formals, semi-formals, socials, date functions, theme parties, retreats, recruitment events, there are so many things you don't want to miss!

8. You'll always have someone to eat with. As a freshman, and even now the only thing I dread more than dining hall food is eating dining hall food alone. With 60+ sisters, you'll never have to awkwardly eat while reading a textbook as an excuse for your solitary dinner.

9. There will always be people to help you with your hair and makeup. Big date tonight? Here's 60 hairstylists, makeup artists, and stylists. (Bonus if you're the same size as some of your sisters, 60+ closets to pick through).

10. While it sounds cliché, you really will make friends for life. There's a reason they say "It's not 4 years it's 4 life."

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
