Female friendships are one of the most valuable relationships that a woman cherishes. Every group of friends has their own set of “rules” that governs the group. All females are expected to follow these unspoken and spoken rules. And while that sounds rigid and annoying, it’s actually a pretty great thing.
We ladies have to have each other’s backs – I mean who else but our own kind truly understands what it’s like to endure period drama or sore feet from sky high stilettos? We’re in this together and if we’re banding together we’re going to need a set of universal laws.
Here’s a quick lesson on Girl Code:
1. Don't even think about going for an ex- boyfriend
Let’s start off with the basics: no making out, flirting, batting of the eyelashes with a friend’s ex-boyfriend, fling, or friends with benefits. Why sacrifice a valuable friendship for a guy who won’t last and is clearly playing both of you?
2. Watch out for your friends when they're on a new date
If your friend is going out with someone they’ve never met before, they will text you where they will be and what time they expect to be home. You in turn make sure you hear from them at this time, and if not, you text them to make sure they’re home safely.
3. Let your friend vent when she needs to
If your friend begins venting or complaining about something and you want to vent also, you wait until she’s completely done before you even think about changing the subject to you.
4. Give out a tampon to any girl who needs it
If a lady is in need of a tampon, THOU SHALT PROVIDE HER WITH A TAMPON.
5. Let a girl know when she has food in her teeth
Having food stuck in your teeth and not knowing is terrible nightmare. So help a girl out and warn her before she puts herself into a sticky situation.
6. Don't abandon drunk friends
Always make sure your drunk friends make it home safe.
7. Don't even think about trying to flirt with your friend's boyfriend
Your friend’s boyfriends are just white noise. You don’t assess them in any sexual way whatsoever, they may as well be invisible to you on the attractive stakes.
8. Let a girl know when her BF is trying to cheat
If someone tries to hit on you and you know they have a girlfriend, you tell the GIRLFRIEND.
9. Boost each other's confidence
If you’re in a bathroom at a bar or a club a there’s other girls around the mirror you have to tell them how awesome they look.
10. Know that siblings are off limits unless you ask
Don’t date your friends’ siblings no matter how hot they may be, unless you get permission.
11. Be there for your friend through her relationship problems no matter what
If your girlfriend is having serious relationship troubles, you’re on phone duty until things go back to normal. And just a reminder, killing the asshole who broke your friends heart will only hurt her more.
12. Let any girl know when something's wrong with her outfit
Always (discreetly) inform a girl of a wardrobe malfunction.
13. Give hair ties to those in need
If a friend asks for a hair tie you have to give her yours, even if it’s your favorite one.
14. Be there for your friend who just got out of a relationship
Even if your friend falls out of contact with you because she’s been dating an asshole who alienates everyone, she’s always welcomed back when she dumps him or needs support to dump him. She will also need a friend to convince her of bad decisions and late night food runs.
15. Be nice to all girls instead of putting them down
How about instead of criticizing and trying to be mean to other women we empower them and say something positive about each other? The world would be a much better place if we were nice to each other instead of always trying to put others down.
