To The Girl Who Can't Be With Her Significant Other On Valentine's Day

To the girl who will not get to be with her significant other on Valentine's Day,

Long distance relationships can be difficult, especially when certain holidays, such as Valentine's Day, creep up on you. Upsetting emotions on Valentine's Day about not being with your significant other could be flowing out of your heart. The only thing you wish for is just to have that one person by your side, but knowing they cannot be can bring about negative emotions. I am here to remind you that it will be okay.

Sadness is not an uncommon feeling, but sadness is not what you should be feeling. You should be feeling happy and loved because you have someone to be upset over, no matter where they might be. Valentine's day is a hyped-up holiday that makes people crazy over being with the one they love and getting the best gift to show off how much love they have for each other. Sometimes, this is not physically possible for couples, so remember you are not alone. People think that if you are not with your significant other on this one day then it does not mean as much and there is no point to celebrate Valentine’s Day. This is false and those people are wrong. There are many ways to celebrate.

Video chatting is great to do when you want to have a date in the comfort of your own room. It makes you and your lover feel together even if you are not in the same place. And if you are a person who wants to make Valentine's day special with a gift, sending a small gift, like candy, with a cute note never fails to brighten up anyone’s day. If your lover is busy, hang out with friends and enjoy just a regular day. Staying home and eating pizza by yourself may seem like a good solution at the time, but trust me, you will regret it when you find out you could have been spending quality time with other people who love you like your friends.

If Valentine’s Day is just not your thing, then at least remember this: every time you get to see your significant other in person, you should be celebrating Valentine's Day. Not the cliché type of Valentine’s Day but the part with the love, support, and respect for the other person. This is possible because every time you get to see, touch, talk with, or laugh with your significant other is a gift of love that nothing and nobody else can replace. Love should be shown throughout the days, weeks, months, and years of being in a relationship with the person you cannot imagine your life without.

So, maybe you cannot be with your love on that one "special" day, but that does not change the fact of how much love you have for each other or how much the relationship means to each of you. Making up for lost days throughout the relationship is a much more fulfilling feeling. If you feel lonely on Valentine’s Day remember, you are not alone.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
