It's time to take another trip to Stars Hollow as the Gilmore girls are back in town!
Earlier last week the new trailer for the revival of the famous mother-daughter sitcom was released. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will be dropped on Netflix November 25th.
It will feature four 90-minute long episodes that will follow the girls during the four seasons starting with winter.
By the looks of it, Lorelai is still in Stars Hollow, but it seems as though Rory has come back for a visit after having lived a travel-bound life as, my guess, a successful journalist.
The story seems like it is following the three generations of the Gilmore girls, Lorelai, Rory, and Emily, during a time of a life-questioning crisis. Lorelai seems worried about whether she is happy with her life at the Dragonfly Inn and with her long time love interest Luke, Rory is questioning her busy life, and Emily is trying to figure what to do after the death of her husband.
Many of the characters are coming back like Jess, Logan, Dean, Michel, Paris, Kirk, Sookie, Lane, etc. Many are excited to learn what became of the lives of the characters after the finale in 2007; especially the young crowd of Jess, Logan, Lane, and Paris since they were just starting to grow up and transition to adulthood at the end of the show.
Gilmore Girls will be a little different due to the significant loss of actor Edward Hermann, who played Richard Gilmore, the grandfather, who passed at the age of 71 in 2014 due to brain cancer.
Kelly Bishop, the actress who played alongside Hermann as his onscreen wife, Emily Gilmore, said on the matter, “I have so many fond memories of our time together on Gilmore Girls and since, mainly via email. I think everyone who knew or worked with Ed found him to be absolutely delightful… Everything looks a little dim, as if the lights went down."
The show definitely will have an unavoidable hole in it due to the loss of such a great actor and important role in the show. The revival will respectably pay tribute to Hermann, and his character will still be apart of this new Gilmore experience.
In the ‘We’re Back’ featurette that came out early in October, many of the actors spoke about their experience and thoughts concerning the show. Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) said, “It’s a great group of people and an amazing group of actors. Every role is thoughtfully cast.”
Matt Czuchry (Logan Huntzberger) bragged about the writing saying, “Their scripts are so intelligent, witty, and memorably-paced with a dialogue like no other.”
It is both exciting and emotional to see this exasperated, caffeinated, and heart-warming tale of witty characters come back to life. The show is so significant and powerful for its use of storytelling and writing, and it will be a delight to see more thoughtful entertainment that has already been a gift to watch.
