The Gilmore Girls revival aired on Netflix the Friday after Thanksgiving this year. As a huge Gilmore Girls fan, I was so excited to see what Stars Hollow had been up to all these years. I knew the show wouldn't be the same after Richard (Edward Hermann) passed away, but I still had high hopes for the revival. Sadly, it did not live up to my expectations (and I think many will agree with me). The characters seemed flat, the lines seemed cornier than usual and let's talk about the huge let down that is the last 30 seconds of the last episode.
First, the amount of work Lauren Graham has done to her face is hard to ignore. Although not confirmed it appears that Lorelai has gotten a nose job and possibly some face fillers. It can be attributed to getting older and gaining weight, but I strongly believe she's gotten some work done. You be the judge.
Next, let's cover Alexis Bledel (A.K.A Rory). She was always the smart over-achiever who knew what she wanted in life. She graduated from Yale and was ready to follow Obama on his campaign trail. Fast forward 10 years and we find out she's jobless, has nowhere to live and complains more than ever. Sure, she always over-thought everything before, but at 32 she has gotten worse. She is sleeping with Logan -- her ex from college -- who is now engaged to a French girl living in London. Rory also had a one-night stand with a Wookiee. Yep, you read that right. Rory really doesn't have her shit together and, yeah, that's fine while you're younger but at 32 you should have a little direction in life. Not to mention, she's pregnant and we don't know who the father is (99% sure it's Logan).
Melissa McCarthy revived her role as the witty chef Sookie, but she appeared for a whole one minute before her scene was over. Granted, she is a popular movie star now, but you would think she would have a little more screen time.
At the end of the day, I left the show upset. Questions were not answered, characters were not the same and Stars Hollow just wasn't what is used to be. I guess with time things do change and people grow (except in Rory's case).
